Career and Technical Updates

Last week Culinary Arts students planted garlic in one of our new raised beds. Chef Snyder purchased organic garlic from a farm in Little Compton, RI this past August. The students broke the bulb of garlic into single cloves, then planted them about 4 to 6 inches deep. Each clove will grow an entire new bulb, ready to enjoy in the late spring, or for use as vampire protection as needed! Chef Lacasse planted mint, basil, and thyme over the summer and we have already put them to good use in our recipes for the East Side Room.

On September 16th at Gillette Stadium, a team of 8 Health Careers and Plumbing students worked together as the "Walking Broncos" at the Alzheimer's Walk, raising awareness and money for research. Students in Graphic Communications made t-shirts and Ms. Serra, Graphic Communication Instructor, photographed the whole experience. Check out the photos below! Great team spirit and we raised $230.00!

Nurse's Corner

Hello Bronco students and families. It was so nice to meet some of you last evening at the Curriculum Night. I just want to remind everyone that I must have a copy of a physical performed in the last year for all freshman and sophomore students, and for all students that are participating in a sport.

In addition, if you/your student is in a Career and Technical Program that leaves the school for an off-site clinical experience, such as Early Childhood and Health Careers you will have to have a physical exam in your chart in the nurse's office that is no more than 1 year old. This will be the case every year that you go off site for your work experience.

Please feel free to reach out to myself, Michele Reidt, with any questions, concerns, of if you want to share some information that might help me to care for your child. My contact information is below. Thanks again for allowing me to be a part of your children's time here at Keefe Tech. Have a wonderful and safe weekend! Good luck to all of our athletes competing! Senior, Samantha Poole and Junior, Kaitlyn Sok were selected to represent Keefe Tech at Senator Spilka's Youth Advisory Council. Sam and Kaitlyn attended their first meeting last week at the State House with Senator Spilka, members of her cabinet, and additional State Officials. Additional students from Senator Spilka's District were present, including students from Holliston, Framingham, Ashland, Franklin High Schools.

During the meeting, Spilka's office talked to students about internship opportunities at the State House and presented a project for each student to begin a research paper on one of Senator Spilka's Bills and give feedback to the group at the March meeting. Kaitlyn shares that "It was really professional and I felt really involved. My opinion was valued and I was an actual part of the discussion that was happening." Sam states that "Being in the State House was really interesting. We got to go into the room where all the State Senators meet and vote. Everything was really historic and we got spend time learning the history of the building." Best of luck to both students at their next meeting that will be held at the World War II Museum in Natick.
