The Richardson Review
October 23rd, 2022
Dear Richardson Students & Families,
We hope everyone is enjoying their MEA break! For many Minnesotan families, MEA break is a cherished October event, as it provides them with extra time to relax, connect and have fun with their families before the cold winter days roll in. This weekend was an especially beautiful one with the warm weather, so we hope everyone had time to get outside and enjoy nature.
Besides MEA, October is an important month as it is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness. We invite all our students, families and staff to wear pink on Wednesday, October 26th to show our support for all those who are dealing with breast cancer, are survivors and/or who have lost loved ones to this disease.
Our students enjoyed wearing orange on Unity Day, and participating in our buddy assemblies. We held three assemblies that day, one for 2nd & 5th, one for 1st & 4th and one for Kindergarten & 3rd grade. At these assemblies, students learned about Unity Day, anti-bullying rules/expectations that can support our school in being welcoming for everyone...and we had some fun too with buddy greetings, songs, and games. (See above for images from these assemblies).
We look forward to having more community building assemblies and activities throughout the year where students can show off their school spirit. This Friday (October 28th) will kick off our School Spirt/School Colors days. On Fridays, students and staff will be encouraged to show off their Penguin Pride by wearing school gear and/or school colors (black, red and/or white).
If you did not get a chance to purchase a Richardson T-shirt at our Welcome Back Open House, and are interested in purchasing one, you can email Amber Hinz at ahinz@isd622.org
While dress up days are a fun way to feel connected as a community, the most important thing our students can do to show they are committed to making Richardson a great school is to demonstrate our Penguin Pride Values - Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful. Let's keep working together to keep our "Penguin Pride, Growing Strong" everyday!!!
Please feel free to contact the main office, or me, at any time with questions, concerns, and/or suggestions. My contact information is mhoude@isd622.org or 651-748-6910.
Together,
Mrs. Houde (pronounced "hood")
