Weekly Family Update Issue # 10
October 13, 2019
Principal's Message
Hello Falcon Families,
This week is Safety Preparedness Week at Oak Valley. We will spend time in each class this week preparing students for what to do in the event of a disaster or safety event as well as practicing several different safety drills. This is in conjunction with the Great California Shake-Out, which is a statewide earthquake drill that takes place each year in October. On Monday and Tuesday, teachers will go over specific evacuation and safety procedures with each of their classes. This will give students specific directions on what to do and where to go for each of their different classroom spaces. On Wednesday, we will practice a campus-wide lockdown drill. Thursday will be our earthquake (duck/cover/hold) drill followed by a disaster evacuation drill where all students will evacuate to the main field while teams of staff members practice the search and recovery process. I will make sure to send a message home to all families at the completion of our drills.
Our second group of 6th grade students returned home from camp on Friday. I was able to spend Wednesday at camp last week, and I had a great time. Students were engaged in nature hikes, crafts, and outdoor challenges. The students loved it and so did I!
Thanks for all you do for our Oak Valley Community! Go Falcons!
Beaming with Falcon Pride,
Mr. Young

Julian Apple Pie Sale
It’s pie time! Oak Valley Music Boosters is kicking off its annual Julian Pie Fundraiser. Delicious fresh and frozen pies are priced at $20 each. Why are we fundraising? With over six hundred students, our award-winning music program needs your help to fund a $16,000 sound shell, instruments, guest instrumentalists, accompanists and sheet music. Please click here for more information and to place your order. All orders are due by November 4, 2019.
Oak Valley Falcon Foundation
We are getting there! THANK YOU to all that have contributed to the Oak Valley Falcon Foundation thus far! We are up to $109,000 of our $125,000 goal for the new shade structures, and are so close to reaching our goal! The new shade structures will provide over 1600 sq. ft. of much needed shade for our students during lunch and other outdoor activities. Our deadline to fund these shade structures is Dec 6, 2019, which is less than two months away. With the construction of new building rapidly underway, many of your children will directly benefit from your donation. Likewise, any family donating $300 or more will get their name on a commemorative plaque immortalizing your commitment and contribution to our school, but any donation amount helps.
You can donate online at: www.oakvalleyfalconfoundation.com
Thank you for your support!

Link Your Ralphs Card
Ralphs partners with Oak Valley Middle School to give us a portion of the $ from your purchases. At the beginning of each school year you need to link your Ralph's Club Card to Oak Valley Middle School. It only takes a few minutes. The Ralphs program is free money for our school, but your purchases don't count if your card is not linked! Click here to go to our PTSA webpage with the steps to link your card.
I would like to thank all of our Art Crops volunteers for attending their training this past week. Parents learned the lesson they will be teaching to our students campus wide. Thank you so much to our PTSA for funding this invaluable opportunity for our students!
Mystery On The OVMS Express
It’s almost here! Our OVMS Science Mystery Night is back by popular demand. Join your zany OVMS staff for a night of mystery and mayhem! “Mystery on the OVMS Express” is on Friday, October 18 from 6-9 p.m. Participants must use their forensic fortitude to solve a mystery using science skills and critical thinking. The event is appropriate for investigators of all ages, so feel free to bring your family and friends. Presale tickets are $8.00 per person, and can be purchased here at school through your child’s science teacher, at lunch through ASB, or online through our school website (please select "Mystery on the OVMS Express" from the drop down menu; a fee of $2.95 per transaction will be charged). In 2017, we hosted this event and the event SOLD OUT. Get your tickets early, or plan to arrive early that evening and purchase tickets at the door for $10 per person. See you there!
