Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! I hope all of you enjoyed time spent with your family and all are happy and healthy.

Our Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) program begins on January 19th! More information will follow. Happy Reading! Our next PTA Meeting will be January 20th via Zoom. We hope to see you there!

Kindergarten report cards will be on the portal on January 28th. Letters will be sent home on January 20th with instructions on how to set up an account for your Kindergartner on the Powerschool Parent Portal. If you have an account already for students in upper grades, the letter will provide you with the Kindergartners' Access ID and Password to link that student to your already existing account.

Sincerely,

Hillary Bromberg Ed.D.

Important Reminder about Absences

Please be reminded that regular school attendance is not only mandated by law, but is a key ingredient for educational success. Legal reasons for absences include: illness, death in family, court appearances, and observance of religious holidays. If your child is frequently absent due to illness, you will be contacted and medical documentation may be requested. All other absences will be considered unexcused or truant.

Please also be aware that lateness to school can be considered partial truancy and is monitored as closely as absences. Chronic lateness is disruptive to the students in the class, the teacher, and most importantly, to the child. Parents and guardians are asked to contact the school to report each absence. This can be done by calling our Absentee Line at 516-379-3733. If you are requesting classwork and/or homework for your child on the day of the absence, please leave that message with the nurse or on the absence line. Parents are requested to submit a written and signed excuse note for each absence your child has, when they return to school.

Hour of Code during Computer Science Week

December 7-11 was Computer Science Education week. To give our students an introduction to coding and broaden their exposure to the field of computer science, each class participated in an Hour of Code. From Kindergarten to 6th grade, students coded dance parties, minecraft activities, and fun Disney activities to name a few. Each student received a personalized certificate when their activity was completed.
