Mrs. Mathe's Message
We can feel the holiday magic in the air on campus! With 2 weeks left until winter break, we work hard to maintain routine while making memories. There are many opportunities over the next 2 weeks to get involved at your child's school. We hope that you are able to join us for one of our events over the next couple weeks. PTO and our room moms have sent out sign ups for volunteers for classroom holiday parties as well as our Jingle Jam event.
If you are new to Powell, Jingle Jam is a special event that is put on by the PTO and occurs during specials time. Students participate in fun activities with their friends during this event. These activities include things like minute to win it games, crafts, blow up obstacle courses, and much more. The PTO provides the games, activities, inflatables, candy canes, crafts, cookies and the snow machine. After the Jingle Jam event, children return to class to finish out the school day as normal. We are looking forward to this event on December 15th!
In order to make Jingle Jam a success, we need 25 parent volunteers per grade level. Click the link below for available times and to sign up to help. Thank you for helping make this event a success!
In addition to having a fun time at Jingle Jam, we are asking students to bring a food item to donate to the Montgomery County Food Bank. These items will be donated just in time for the holidays. If you are able to, send your donation to school on December 15th and as students enter into the gym for the Jingle Jam event, they will deposit their food donations into the designated boxes.

Request for Assistance from our Counselor
Another part of the counseling program is coordinating resources for students throughout the year. In order to meet the needs of our students I will need a little information from parents. This form will help guide me in providing families with the needed resources.
Gifted and Talented Nominations
GT Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by parents and/or campus staff.
It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) scores have arrived before nominating their child as CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. All 2nd grade students will take the CogAT October 18 & 19. 2nd grade parents will be contacted if their child will be nominated for further testing in the spring.
Referrals will be accepted October 3- December 16, 2022. You may request a referral packet from Mrs. Nixon at snixon@conroeisd.net
CISD Calendar Feedback
Conroe ISD is seeking public input on the 2023-2024 school calendar. The CISD District-Level Planning and Decision-Making Committee (DLPDMC) is responsible for developing the 2023-2024 school calendar and has developed drafts for students, families, employees, and the community to review. Feedback may be submitted from Friday, November 18, 2022, through 8:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2023 via the survey below. The DLPDMC will then review all feedback and plans to make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees at their Regular Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
Information about developing the calendar drafts can be found in the presentation made to the Board of Trustees at their November Meeting posted on the Board of Trustees Information webpage.
