HAUTAPU SCHOOL PANUI

Week 7, Term 2

Principal's Message

I hope that all of you enjoyed the wonderful long weekend and were able to stay warm and dry.

I would like to express my gratitude to those of you who took the time to complete the Rongohia te Hau Survey. We had nearly 70% of all our whānau participate in this survey. Tomorrow, Geraldine and I will draw the name of the lucky winner for the $100 grocery voucher. Additionally, on Thursday, the leadership team will meet with Benjamin Doyle from Poutama Pounamu to review the feedback. We are eager to collaborate with staff, students, and community members to develop an action plan.

A friendly reminder that all Cambridge Schools will be closed on Friday, 16th June, for our annual Teacher Only Day. The theme for the day revolves around "Past, Present and Future." We have keynote speakers, Mere Berryman presenting "Understanding our shared histories is foundational for our Future" and Melanie Riwai-Couch presenting "Niho Taniwha: Improving Teaching and Learning for Ākonga Māori." There will also be various breakout sessions focusing on the NZ Curriculum Refresh, Local Stories, and Mana Enhancing Practice.

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Rural Principals’ Conference in Queenstown. This conference brought together educational leaders from rural communities to discuss and address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by schools in rural areas. A diverse range of speakers and experts shared key messages aimed at empowering rural principals and improving educational outcomes in schools. Throughout the conference, the significance of building strong connections within and beyond the school community was emphasised. Principals discussed the importance of fostering relationships with parents, students, teachers, and community members to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We are so fortunate to work and live in such a supportive community.

Kia pai te toenga o te wiki (Enjoy the rest of your week)
