FEBRUARY Shine Award Winner
Each month, Shaw Elementary picks a "Shine Award" Winner. This ONE student is chosen over all the others in the whole school to receive this special award.
CONGRATULATIONS to Destney Ginter for being February's Shine Award winner! Destney is a great leader in our school and shows all of our good character traits.
Way to go Destney!
Please read the following write-up from Destney's teacher who nominated her.....
Respectful & Caring
Destney is very respectful and caring. She is always the first one to help others. If someone is hurt or needs help, she is very compassionate and knows when help is truly needed. She is genuinely interested in others and follows up with her classmates when they have shared about an event or concern asking how they are feeling, how things went. She uses strategies that she has learned to think positive thoughts and encourages her peers to use them when they are struggling.
Responsible and Trustworthy
Destney is a very hard worker and has made a lot of growth this year. She works on reading at school and home to become a better reader. She always has a positive attitude and when faced with a challenging task, she doesn’t get discouraged or complain. She keeps on trying! Her teacher says she is very trustworthy and is always the first to help a peer or teacher. She doesn’t do it for praise, but because she is simply trying to do the right thing.
Keep up the good work Destney!

Attendance Do's and Don'ts
- DON'T forget to report an absence to the office! Call 937-429-7610, option 1 OR email shawattendance@gocreek.org. If the absence is not reported by 9:30am then our automated calling system automatically pulls the info of anyone we have not heard from yet.
- DO keep your student home until they are 24 hour symptom free, without medication.
- DON'T forget to get a doctor's note and turn it into the Shaw office when your student visits the doctor during school hours. Each student has 10 absences a school year that a parent can excuse, however if you get a doctor's note the absence does not count against the 10 you are allotted. Doctor notes should be turned in within 5 days of the absence.
- DO let us know in advance of any absences due to a vacation. The district is no longer using vacation request forms. Therefore, an email to shawattendance@gocreek.org is the best way to let us know about an upcoming vacation. The district excuses 10 vacation/out of town days per school year. Please note: parents only receive 10 days of absence that they can excuse. If all parent excused absences are used toward vacation, there will be none left to cover sick days.
