Where the Adventure Begins...
HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Happy Friday to everyone!!! We had a BLAST this week with our firefighter visits! Our Frisco fire department sent out one of their trucks and several fireman to spend time with our kids. They got to explore around the truck and got to see a fireman put on all his gear. Fireman Chris taught them about each piece and how it keeps them safe. The biggest lesson that we want kids to know is that if they are in a fire and see a fireman wearing all their gear, they need to run TO them. The fireman will get them safely to their family! We don't want them to hide or be scared. They also learned about Stop, Drop, and Roll and a few kiddos got to practice with Fireman Chris. Check out the video above of our featured student, Maurice! He is 3 years old and already an expert! He was a great example and leader for the rest of the students. Way to go, Maurice!!!
ONE AND DONE! We are officially kicking off our annual fundraiser! Monday and Tuesday we will be sending home an envelope with each student. We are asking for each family to make a one time donation to our school. You can send in cash or check in whatever amount you feel led to donate. We will send a receipt home for your records. We will use all the money toward materials for our classrooms that students will use directly. This will help us purchase books, manipulatives, toys that support motor development and social skills, and other classroom resources that will maximize learning. This is our once a year fundraiser so please consider making a donation to support ECS! This fundraiser will run until November 16th. Thank you, in advance, for supporting our school!
This weekend is looking a little wet, so hopefully it will afford some great indoor time with your families full of fun and snuggles! I know that's what I'll be doing with my girls! Enjoy! And don't forget PICTURE DAY is Wednesday, October 17th!

Parent Notes!
When you send a note to school about your child, please make sure to include your child's name, their teacher's name, and the date! This will help make sure we are documenting the right information for the right student. Also, don't forget that we must receive notes within 3 days of any absence for the note to count. Thanks so much for your help!

The Counselor Corner
PROBLEM SOLVING, GRIT
Teaching our children to resolve problems on their own is one of the most important skills to help them develop. As a counselor and a parent, I try to keep in mind the following idea: do not do something for children that they can do on their own. Now, I did share it’s important, but I didn’t say it was easy. Waiting patiently for them to follow through or make mistakes can be challenging. It can be especially difficult if your child fails or gets frustrated and wants to quit. Some of our children will easily master some skills but it may take years for other skills. However, if you keep your eye on the prize, you will raise a child who can think independently, persist in learning, and encourage respect. This teaches them grit and helps them to be resilient.
At ECS, we are creating little problem solvers. We will guide our students to resolve problems respectfully and in a manner that is satisfying to them. Teaching our students to accurately label their feelings will support healthy emotional development. We want our students to feel that their words are important. In order to support this, we will create a trusting environment so we can focus on the learning, not the small problems.
Your family can:
· Model problem solving skills by talking about steps to resolve issues
· Use opportunities like puzzles, stories, board games, and craft projects for teachable moments
· Brainstorm and be creative when experiencing a problem
· Reflect about the results or consequences of an outcome
