Student Handbook Highlights: Student Responsibilities
We have seen an increase in Tik Tok videos being taken on campus and in classes. We would like to remind students and parents about the handbook and what it states about photos and videos taken with a device.
This section will rotate and highlight varying parts of the student handbook.
Photos and Videos Taken with the Device
Students may not take photos or videos of other students, staff, or anyone without their permission. The possession, forwarding, or uploading of unauthorized photos or videos to any website, network storage area, or sharing with another person is strictly forbidden. In addition, photos and video taken with the device may not be used to slander, bully, or denigrate any student, staff member, or anyone on or off the campus at any time. Photos and videos taken with the device are for educational purposes only and should be directly related to classroom assignments, projects, and areas of study.

Nominations are now being accepted for our state's top teaching honor, Idaho Teacher of the Year! ANYONE can make a nomination, so please take a moment to nominate a special teacher! Make a nomination at sde.idaho.gov/toy
“Idaho is full of passionate, innovative teachers who inspire their students to dream and achieve,” says Superintendent Sherri Ybarra. “Choose a favorite teacher who has made a difference for you or your child, then send us a nomination. Public school teachers in all parts of Idaho, all subjects and grade levels are eligible for this honor.”
Nominations will be accepted through Monday, March 14. Last year, Idahoans nominated about 150 teachers.
Nominated teachers will be notified and will have until May 9 to apply for the honor. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, and the winning teacher will be announced in September during a surprise visit to their school.
The 2023 Teacher of the Year will receive a cash award and travel across Idaho talking with other teachers, legislators and policymakers about education in our state. She or he will serve as Idaho’s nominee for National Teacher of the Year.
This school year’s Idaho Teacher of the Year is Todd Knight, who teaches science, engineering and coding classes at Crossroads Middle School, a West Ada School District “school of choice” for students who may struggle in large traditional schools. Other recent winners include: 2021 Teacher of the Year Jorge Pullerio, then a dual-immersion Spanish Language Arts teacher at Wood River Middle School; 2020 Teacher of the Year Stacie Lawler, a health and physical education teacher at Timberlake Junior High School ; 2019 winner Marc Beitia, an American Falls High School agriculture instructor and FFA advisor; and Vision Charter School chemistry and language arts teacher Becky Mitchell, Teacher of the Year for 2018.

NC- No Credit- What does that mean?
If so, this just indicates your student needs to finish serving lunch detention to take care of their unserved tardies. Students with NCs should serve off tardies by the end of February if they wish to receive credit for the class. NCs will be put into PowerSchool next week.
Once detentions are served, the NC will be removed.
Students need to make arrangements with their Vice Principal!
Be On Time!
It's a new semesters, so it's a fresh start for tardies! If your student has more than 3 tardies (T or TL) in a class, he/she will need to serve detention until the number is back to or below 3 per class.
We play music with 2 minutes remaining in the passing period, this is the signal to students that class is starting soon. Students, please be on time. Guardians, please speak with your student about the importance of not being late.
Lunch detention for 4 or more tardies. The limit per class is 3.
Lunch detention is served on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Attendance
- Taking a Trip or Vacation? If you know you are going to pull your student out of school for a trip or vacation, or any extended period of time, please have your student pick up a Pre-Approved Absence sheet from the main office. This helps us track attendance and helps your student get organized in their classes prior to being gone.
- If you need to check your student out, please do so by calling the attendance office ahead of time. To get your student out of class, please call 45 minutes prior to the time you will be here to pick them up. If your student has an appointment in the morning, please call the day prior to the appointment. We appreciate your support!
- If a student is absent please call the attendance line to report their absence.
- Students that are in quarantine will attend school remotely and will not be marked absent.
- Our school funding this year is based on attendance. Absences = less money for Mountain View High School. Please be in class. Teachers will be instructing bell to bell for maximized learning opportunities.
