Recommendations often come from school staff and board members; youth clubs and organizations; the business community or other teenagers. Any community member inspired by a teen’s efforts can submit a nomination. https://www.spiritofyouth.org/categories/
Grizzly Ticket Challenge Update
We have some amazing students here at KMS and we love to recognize them and show our appreciation!! When a middle school faculty or staff member observes a student exhibiting positive characteristics or behaviors, he/she can write that student a Grizzly Ticket. Then, at the end of each week, one of our administrators will draw ONE ticket from each grade, awarded for kindness, citizenship, respect, integrity, or some other positive action or trait. This past week's winner was....ISAIAH MOISES! Awesome job, Isaiah!!
These weekly winners (one per grade) receive a small prize, and ALL Grizzly Tickets awarded since the start of the school year will be entered in a big prize drawing in May!
In addition, we are currently in the middle of a Grizzly Ticket Challenge! Each grade is competing as a team to be the first to collectively earn 90 Grizzly Tickets and win a special treat for their entire grade!
As of Friday, January 13, these are the current scores:
6th grade- 31
7th grade- 17
8th grade- 11
Keep it up, 6th graders!! You are doing an amazing job!!!
❄️❄️ GRIZZLY WINTER CARNIVAL ❄️❄️

This week in ELA we finished our FastBridge test and wrapped up some of our practice of capitalization. We also reflected on our summary assessment and how to take feedback and apply it to a new situation. Next week, we’ll be starting a new semester! We will be touching base on our expectations of class and doing a diagnostic assessment in iXL to identify some of our gaps in learning. I’m eager for a fresh start and a new semester to finish strong!
This week we have been practicing note-taking skills and describing human and physical features of a place by using a familiar example, Kodiak. This will prepare students for some upcoming independent research they will be doing on a place in the Western Hemisphere. We have also been studying Canada’s provinces and territories and will have a quiz next week to see their progress.
This week in math, we finished the first semester and took the Fast Bridge and IXL tests to check our growth. We are going to be using IXL as a skills-based practice program in class and at home. This is available on each student’s Class Link on their iPad. We will be finishing up our last few algebra lessons next week and then going on to study negative numbers after that.
Welcome back Mr. Bechtol this week.
This week in science we have been practicing our observation skills as we have learned more about rocks, minerals, and crystals. We started a research project on a mineral that exists in the world. Next week, we will finish this project and we will have a test this Friday.
Next week we will be continuing our Fast bridge interventions, working on typing, and practicing annotating readings.
CTE students will begin working in the kitchens on our culinary unit. Students will begin learning about safety in the kitchen. Safety will include sanitation, knife skills and fire prevention.
If you see something that belongs to you call Ms. Kim at 907-486-7459, and she will connect your lost item(s) with your student. :)
