We learned a lot in our fantastic first grade! Read below to find out what we learned!
- We reviewed and brainstormed words with the short o middle sound.
- We learned the sight words: blue, use, help, from what
- We learned about plural words and how we need to add an s
- We learned about predicates in sentences. Predicates are the action part of the sentence.
- We worked on number stories and word problems for addition and subtraction in math.
- We worked in writing workshop on poems about animals. We learned poems are written in lines and rhyme. Check out Katie's poem below.

What to look forward to next week:
- We will learn the new sight words: eat, her, five, this, four, too
- We will learn about non-fiction text
- Students will write their first personal narrative in writing workshop
- Students will work in collaborative groups to create a keynote presentation on an American symbol
- Students will continue focusing on addition and subtraction skills with missing addends and word problems
Liberty Bell Field Trip
- We will having our field trip tp the Liberty bell on October 3rd ( next Thursday). We will leave around 8:40 and return around 2:30-2:45.
- Your child will need to pack a disposable brown bag lunch labeled with their name on it.
- Your child will need to wear their spirit shirt and dress down bottoms with sneakers.
- Thank you to Aadya's mom, Allen's dad and Kelvin's Dad for joining us on this trip.

Word Study
Next week we will be starting word study. The students will be pre-assessed on their word lists on Mondays. Word list will be sent home via seesaw and a hard copy Mondays. Each student will have a list based on their level and skill we are focusing on during the week. Each list will be designed to help your child become a more proficient speller, reader and writer. We will use these words in different activities throughout the week. Students will be assessed on the word lists on Fridays.
