Dear Parents and Members of our School Community
Child Safety
I would like to again take this opportunity to remind all parents, grandparents, and carers of school rules regarding drop off and pick up.
1. Parking in the Kiss and Drive is prohibited between the hours of 7.30 – 9.00am and 2.30 – 3.30pm. This includes ALL AREAS of the Kiss and Drive along Orchid Street. Parking at the entry or at any point of the Kiss and Drive is still prohibited.
2. Parents/grandparents who utilise the Kiss-and-Drive, MUST STAY IN THEIR CAR. Teachers will continue to help children into vehicles and assist with their bags. If your child is unable to put their own seat belt on, you WILL NEED to find a parking spot and walk to the school gate for pick-up.
3. I would also like to highlight the danger of U turns on Orchid Street and the use of the alternate side of Orchid Street for drop off. Crossing from the opposite side of the road during peak traffic flow is extremely dangerous and is placing unnecessary risk on students, parents and staff.
4. We have also noticed some cars are exiting the Powell Street carpark and turning right onto Orchid Street. This manoeuvre is causing significant issues for two reasons:
a. we have many students and parents crossing at that intersection and with three directions of traffic converging, it is simply not safe turning right.
b. cars travelling North along Orchid Street are causing a significant bottleneck at the corner of Orchid Street and Roberts Street. Please exit Powell Street in a Westerly direction and turn right into Osborne Street if you need to access Roberts Street/Wanneroo Road.
5. Consider other traffic users and our neighbours. Please do not park across driveways.
6. The corner of Millet Street and Powell Street is becoming very congested with cars parking on the corners of these streets. It is therefore very tricky to navigate as cars are obscuring the view of oncoming traffic.
Parents, please take the time to discuss these points with grandparents or other family members that may be assisting you.
As always, I raise these points as the health and safety of our students, your children, is of paramount importance.
3 Year Old Program
We are currently undertaking interviews for our 3 Year Old Program for 2024. If you are interested in enrolling your child, or know someone that may be interested in enrolling their child, please submit an Application Form to the school office as soon as possible.
First Holy Communion
Please keep in your thoughts and prayers the Year 4 students as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. The Parent/Child Communion Workshop is to be held next Tuesday 30 May in the school hall starting at 5.30pm, with the Sacramental Mass taking place on Friday 9 June starting at 5.30pm.

MJR AWARD
Every morning Darcy arrives at school with a smile on his face and an enthusiastic greeting for his classmates and teachers. Throughout the day he demonstrates the attributes of being a W.E.S.T person, by including everyone, having the courage to stand up for others and checking in to see if his classmates are OK. Darcy looks for the Spirit of Jesus in others, acknowledging their kindness and compassion.
Congratulations Darcy on Making Jesus Real in our St Denis School community.
SUPERMUM!
Written by the Year 2 Class
If my mum was in a narrative, it would go a little like this..
Once upon a time, there was a superhero named Mum! She loved her family very much and would take care of them no matter what. Mum had very special magical powers, she was able to do a million jobs at once and know the answers to everything! One day, when her child was feeling terribly unwell, she flew on in.. TRA LA LA.. and said.. “No need to fear, Mum is here!!” And with a “Bibbadeebobbideeboo”, her child jumped out of bed, feeling good as new.
The next day, she spied her child looking very sad. TRA LA LA! Mum raced over and said, “No need to fear, Mum is here!” With a spsps and a (blow cheeks), the child belly laughed and felt happy again. One evening, her child had a bad dream and screamed from their bed, “Ahhh!”. In a blink of an eye, mum appeared, TRA LA LA, and said, “No need to fear, mum is here!” and she sprinkled magic sleep dust to make the bad dreams go away. Her child slept like a baby for the rest of the night.
On Sunday, May 14th, Mum heard, “Help”. Mum appeared, TRA LA LA! All of a sudden, her child appeared and said, “Woah woah woah! You can’t work on Mother’s Day.. super mums should be resting today! Let me become Super Child for the day and help others like you do! TRA LA LA! The End
SEEK 2022 ATOM PHOTO COMPETITION
The ATOM photo competition is an annual event that schools across Australia and New Zealand have the opportunity to enter. The theme for the ATOM Photo Comp in 2022 was ‘Hope’. Hope is the feeling of desire and optimism for something particular to occur.
The SEEK class was given the opportunity to submit three photos and include a 300 word description on how the photos relate to ‘hope’. Due to unforeseen circumstances, judging was not completed until the last week of the Easter holidays.
For each category, 6 finalists are named, and once again, St Denis performed very well. We had four students ranked in the top 6 in the Upper Primary Category, with Mia Seat taking out the first prize with her photo called ‘Warmth’ (attached). Congratulations Mia! Congratulations also to Emily S (As One), Anneliese S (A new Day) and Charlotte (Looking up), for being finalists in this category.
Mia will receive a $500 voucher for Ted’s Cameras and certificate to acknowledge this great achievement.
