Dear Families:
Happy New Year!
Please welcome Betty Roberts to our class. We are so excited to have her join our Family of Families. She will play Sims in the show.
You will notice a change in the planner and homework requirements. Students will still fill out the planner daily but will no longer need a signature from you (unless you like that routine for your family). This time of year there is a ton of studying/memorizing to do. Students now have a homework log sheet that they will use to be accountable for this studying. In addition, I am providing more in-class time for other work. Please ask your child about this. If you have any questions, please let me know.
We have made a few changes for Catholic Schools' Week this year. Instead of the Academic Olympics, we will be holding the National Geographic School Bee. The preliminary competition will be held in the classroom with all students participating. The top qualifiers will compete against the other 4th-8th graders who have qualified. Across the country over 11,000 schools are participating in this bee. If you advance to the state and national levels, you could win a $50,000 scholarship, plus a prize trip. All the students in the class will be participating in the preliminary round. Students can choose to study on-line: http://nationalgeographic.org/bee/study
We will also have a Career Fair during Catholic Schools' Week. I am so happy we are bringing this back! We will have tables in the gym for participants to set up a "booth." Students will roam around learning about all the different occupations/vocations. We are looking for parents to participate by sharing their career. Participants will be speaking one-on-one with students as they visit the booth. We'd like you to bring a little something for students to collect as they work they way around all the booths (i.e. coloring page, business card, pen, eraser, stickers etc.). This will be held on Thursday, February 2 from 1:00-2:45. If you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible so we can create space for you. If you can only come for part of the time, that is ok, just let me know the time.
Pax,
