Delta Pi News
Volume 5 Issue 2 August 2018
President's Message
It's been a busy summer that has flown by! Amidst several family fun trips, summer tutoring, and preparations for the upcoming school year, I, along with your Executive Board, have done much to lay the groundwork for a fabulous year for Delta Pi!
In June, Becky Snyder and I attended New Leader Training in Black Mountain. We learned a TON about our new roles!
In July the board met to analyze chapter rules, make committee assignments, establish meeting dates and programs for the biennium, etc. I am SUPER excited about the upcoming year!
Since learning about the DKG "Chapter Achievement" award, my competitive juices have kicked in. More info to come at our September meeting, but for those of you who love competition, you will LOVE this! This past year we earned an Honorable Mention. I have set a goal for us to be a "distinctive" chapter (at least 350 points this year), but it will take all of us working together to make that happen! I look forward to seeing what we can do to grow ourselves and others as women educators.
Enjoy the last days of summer,
Amy Smith

Eta State Wellness Initiative Self-Care Wellness—Living a Balanced Life
By: Dr. Teresa H. Cowan, Eta State NC EEC Chair (copied from Eta Data)
Women experience twice the rate of depression as men, regardless of race or ethnic background. An estimated one woman in eight will contend with a major depression in her lifetime. (http://www.networkofcare.org/library/ womenanddepression.pdf)
For more information on the Eta State Wellness Initiative, SelfCare Wellness—Living a Balanced Life, visit https:// www.ncdkg.org/educationalexcellence-committee.html. You’ll find information, resources, activities, and tons of programs to aid in your EEC efforts as your chapter works toward self-care at both the individual and chapter levels. Download the PDFs as resources, share with your members and plan some of these self-care activities as chapter programs. They will make a difference for all involved. Remember to share EEC success stories as the year progresses. Here’s to a year of Wellness!
Footnote: If you are unfamiliar with SCRIBD (the program on the EEC link on the Eta State NC website), just explore. You cannot hurt it. It has a side scroll bar that all are accustomed to using and also has a download icon, which is the common “down arrow.” Contact me if needed: Dr. Teresa H. Cowan, drthcowan@gmail.com.
