~RSVP for the December outing

Join K12 families around the nation to celebrate computer coding and inspire students with computer science programs. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in over 180 countries.

RSVP for December 7th through 11th Hour of Code

This event happens at 3pm ET each day the week of December 7th, and is an event for the whole family to learn more about coding and inspire our youth with computer science programs. If you'd like to learn more about this amazing program you can check out their website: http://hourofcode.com/us.

As all of our families know there are many choices in education from traditional schools, private schools, virtual schools, and homeschooling groups. Help celebrate your family's journey with us and share why you made the choice to join the Cyber Academy family? We would love to share your response in future Heron Herald editions. We will be randomly selecting one lucky family and sending them a few CASC goodies for telling their story.

Set yourself up for Success with Learning Labs!

How can you ensure that you are successful at our learning labs? Make sure that you bring any necessary materials that you will need while you are at the lab. Many students feel more comfortable bringing their own laptops. That is wonderful! We do have computers that you are able to use at the labs, if needed. Make sure to bring any books or notebooks so that you can use those while at the lab. This will help teachers direct you to the correct information and be able to help you achieve success.

Do you want to check out one of our labs? Click here to sign up for a location near you. We hope you are able to join us at a location near you soon.

Please remember that these are weekly appointments. This allows students to work closely with the facilitating teacher throughout the year. Attendance is important for the success of this program. We do have a wait list for each location and will contact you as soon as a space becomes available if your location is full.

In the best interest of students and learning teams we are requesting that Learning Coaches stay with Kindergarten through Second grade students during learning lab time. This will allow the teacher to support both learning coach and student with the system and strategies for the teams to use at home.

Please reach out to your homeroom teacher if you have any questions.

Virtual Learning Lab

Are you stuck on a problem? Having trouble with an assignment? Need a little extra help right away? Don't worry CASC has you covered! Come visit our virtual learning labs!

Virtual learning labs are a wonderful opportunity for students to get support with their subjects when they need it. We have teachers standing by to support students from 10:00am-12:00pm Tuesday and Thursday. Check for the link to join the session in your class connect schedule.

Please reach out to your homeroom teacher if you have any questions.

Winterland Gingerbread Outing December 18th from 10:00am-12:00pm

December 18th

Our highly anticipated Winterland of Gingerbread Event is booked! We are looking forward to seeing all of the students at our final outing for 2015! If you attended last year you know this is a HUGE event and a TON of fun!

This year we are adding another fun part. We are asking that each student bring a letter to a solider. We are going to be work with a Million Thanks to send these letters of appreciation to our service members. If you would like to find out more about this project please check out their website- A Million Thanks. We will be collecting the letters and cards at the Gingerbread event. Feel free to bring a dollar to cover postage to the troops if you are able.

This is a free event for all of our families, but we would really like to encourage everyone to participate in our letter writing campaign in order to support our troops and thank they during the holiday times. There will not be any food served at this event.

Gingerbread Competition Guidelines for Winterland

Students participating in the Winterland of Gingerbread Competition may submit their houses in one of two categories, based on their level of interest.

Though parents may offer limited assistance, the work should be primarily accomplished by the student.

Peppermint

Gingerbread houses in this category will be judged on their structure and appearance only. The top four gingerbread houses will receive a commemorative “Peppermint Choice Award.”

Gingerbread

The Gingerbread category is for those students who want to enjoy the experience of building a gingerbread house and participate in the event but in a non-competitive category—students who just want to be a part of the fun! Every student who participates at this level will be entered in a random drawing for a “Sweet Gingerbread Award.”
