Campus Lecture: The Tommy John Epidemic

"The Tommy John Epidemic" is a surgical treatment for athletes with a deficient UCL. Recent times have seen an increase of UCL reconstructions performed on MLB pitchers and high school-aged athletes. The frequency raises the question: what is the role of the orthopedic surgeon in this epidemic?


The Professional in Residence program welcomes Orthopedic Surgeon and team physician Dr. Derek Papp '01. Dr. Papp specializes in sports medicine. He has provided medical care for professional and amateur athletic teams including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Florida International University Athletics, and is currently the Baltimore Orioles team physician.


Join us for the campus lecture. Register (link below) by Wednesday, January 13th, for an opportunity to meet Dr. Papp and hear about his professional experience.

International Club presents I-Fair 2016: Travel: What’s in Your Backpack?

I-Club invites you to participate in the booths fair, to be held in the CFA lobby on January 30th. To participate, please fill out this registration form (link here) by today, Monday, the 11th.


Booths should represent one or more countries. Clubs which do not represent a country or culture are encouraged to participate and select a country which is relevant to their club’s mission. If your country or culture doesn’t have a cultural club on campus, I-Club still encourages you to apply! Contact I-Club for assistance.


Requirements for booths: Represent one or multiple countries; Have the necessary information/materials to represent all countries, which includes: Name of your Country, Country Flag, Map, Interactive Activity (coloring, henna, video, teach a dance move, etc), Info/Facts (currency, language(s), capital, population, famous places, etc), Stamps/Stickers (for visitors to decorate their passports).


Suggested ways to decorate booths: Trinkets, Decorations, Photos, Traditional Outfits, Music. Resources for decorating booths: Knox craft room (Taylor Lounge), Dollar Tree, craft stores, items brought from home.

I-fair Culture Showcase Sign Up Information

Thank you for everyone who came to audition yesterday, we really appreciate your work for I-fair. We still have a few space for people who want to present their cultures in culture showcase but was not ready for audition. Please sign up for the 2016 I-Fair culture showcase here. Recommended performances include dances, musical performances, traditional wedding, fashion show, etc., and should be cultural. Performances can be up to 4 minutes long.


We will hold one more audition on January 15th from 4:00pm in Kresge.The committee is going to decide the final performances list after this audition. Performances do not have to be complete at the time of audition, but should give us an idea of where your performance is going. Dress rehearsals will be held on Sunday, Jan. 24th at 1pm and Friday, Jan. 29th (time TBD). All the selected performances are required to go to the rehearsals.
