PurposeFull Practice: Respect, Lesson 1
Dear McKinley Family,
I spent time presenting Courage: Lesson 3, in TK-AM and all kindergarten and first grade classes last week, and Respect: Lesson 1, this week. I can honestly say that you would be so very proud of your students! They were Respectful, Responsible, Kind, and Safe; and they soaked in all of the information. For instance, it is really something to hear approximately 200 children saying the Courage Chant together at our afternoon assemblies. On that note, please ask them to show you our new sign for Respect.
In keeping with our former PurposFull Practice- Courage, we took time out of our days to think about the many courageous people who serve us: Law Enforcement, Medical Staff, Firefighters, Teachers, and Parents -just to name a few. As a site, we decided that we wanted to surprise our students and honor a few of our local Courageous Heroes: Highway Patrol Officer Muzzy and Cal Fire Captain Zarate (pictured below).
Our lessons on Courage ended last week, and we are now one week into Respect. Like I tell the students, although we will be learning about a new PurposeFull Practice; just like reading or writing, we continue to practice and grow stronger in the former ones. In our effort to collaborate with the most important adults in their lives (you), I have attached the Respect Parent Resource Letter (in English and Spanish). You will find family activities, suggestions, and resources that will not only reinforce the lessons; they will likely spark deep and meaningful conversations.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or ideas.
Warmly yours,
Mrs. O (Ormachea)
