Meet our New Horizons Therapist, Ms. Hanner!
My name is Lindsay Hanner, and I am the New Horizons Therapist for Brenstville. I have a Bachelors Degree in Social Psychology, a Masters Degree in Community Counseling and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been in the counseling field for over seven years primarily working with adolescents, and have been providing school-based services for the past four years through Prince William County Community Services.
Prince William County Community Services provides school-based mental health and substance abuse services through the New Horizons Program. The New Horizons School-Based Program places a therapist in each of the high schools throughout Prince William County, Manassas Park and Manassas City. As the New Horizons therapist for Brentsville, I conduct substance abuse and mental health assessments/intakes to evaluate them for school-based services, facilitate groups, provide individual counseling, team building exercises and consult with teachers, counselors, parents, and administrators regarding students and substance abuse/mental health issues.
I run weekly groups throughout the school day and I try to rotate the blocks, so a student does not consecutively miss the same class. The groups typically last for 45 minutes and are a combination of short-term groups and long term groups that can last for the school year. Individual counseling occurs on an as needed basis. I remind each student that their academics are a priority and they are responsible for completing any class assignments they have missed due to being with me. I am bound to confidentiality by HIPAA and all students that I meet with will be provided a permission letter that will need to be signed by a parent or legal guardian to consent to services, unless they are over 18.
