Superintendent Update - December 14, 2020
Take a Little Time to Care for Yourself!
As we come close to finishing the first half of the 2020-21 school year, I wanted to take a moment to thank YOU for everything you have done this year to support our students as we entered uncharted territory through distance learning. Words cannot express how proud I am of how far we have come in just a few months, and we look forward to providing you with updates as we make preparations to safely bring students back to campus.
As we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic can feel overwhelming. During the upcoming break, please take some time to pause, reflect and practice self-care. Watch the video below for a few self-care tips that have worked for me over the past few months:
Don’t forget, if you need any support--we have a team of professionals ready to help. Contact our Student Support Services Department if you need anything. We are here for you!
As a reminder, schools will be closed from December 21st to January 1st. The first day of school will be Monday, January 4th, 2021. Our District Office will be open December 21-23 and December 28-30 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and well. Have a wonderful break and here's to a lighter, brighter and prosperous new year!

Meet Jennifer Marquez
Jennifer Marquez is the Community Liaison at Jane Addams Middle School (JAMS), where she connects parents to resources and helps develop workshops that are beneficial for JAMS families. Jennifer is passionate about providing parents with the resources that will help their students succeed academically, socially and emotionally. As a parent to two LESD students, she understands the importance of parent engagement. She encourages parents to get involved at her school and at the district, so they can support and advocate for their students and provide their input to our administrators.
"I believe that parents are a very important part of our school district. They play an important role in the education of their children, in our school communities, as well as providing support to our teachers and staff. I encourage JAMS parents to reach out if they are ever in need of support", says Jennifer as she reflects about parent engagement and building a strong community at her school.
Jennifer has served LESD for 7 years. Before becoming a Community Liaison, she worked for the RAP Program and as a Health Care Instructional Assistant. She was born and raised in Lawndale attending Anderson Elementary and Rogers Middle school. This experience helps her connect with families and provide a safe and welcoming environment that encourages growth and community.
Currently she is in her junior year at Cal State University Dominguez Hills where she is working towards earning her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Spanish and a minor in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Jennifer would love to give back to the Lawndale community and her goal is to someday become a teacher at one of our schools.
