Ivan Pavlov

Life and Family

Ivan Pavlov was born September 14, 1849, in Ryazan, Russia. He gave up theological seminary to get receive the degree of Canididate of Natural Sciences in 1875. He also completed his graduate dissertation on the centrifugal nerves of the hear from the Imperial Medical Academy. In 1904, he was given the Noble Prize for Physiology or Medicine. In 1907 he was also elected the Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Ivan had a wife named Seraphima and a total of 5 kids; he died February 27, 1936.

Contribution to Psycology

During his years studying people, he began to shift psychology into studying more about the observable behaviors instead of studying about mental processes. Throughout his studies he focused on what we can see, and this change occurred for most of the next 40 years around the world.
