An Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School West

A Word From Mr. Creeden

We concluded a busy week at West this week. We wrapped up the 2nd marking period on Tuesday and had our safety week where we shared important safety messages, and practiced drills, informing students about how to stay safe in and out of the building in case of emergency. Along with emergency preparedness, students were also reminded of treating others with kindness and respect. A safe school needs to be a bully free school. Following the message to the students, students watched a video on how to stop bullying. You can see the video below.

Another important place to be safe is on electronic device, more specifically cell phones, and on social media. We recognize the significance of online and social media safety here at West and are looking forward to providing students and parents/guardians with support and resources to create this safe environments for your children and our students. The first opportunity to discuss this as a middle school community here in Perkiomen Valley is at our Principal's Roundtable here in the Middle School West Library during the evening of Thursday February 23rd. See more information about this Roundtable and much, much more below.

What's Up @ West

Ski & Snowboard Club🎿

The ski and snowboarding club ventured to Bear Creek Thursday for their first trip of the season. Students skied and snowboarded down the mountain and enjoyed some fun outdoor adventures with their PVMS East friends. There will be 3 more trips to Bear Creek this season in February. We are keeping your fingers crossed for some snow!

GO EAGLES! GO ALEXA!

The Philadelphia Eagles rolled to victory over the New York Giants this past weekend, showcasing they are still one of the best teams in the league and the Super Bowl contender they've been all season. Philadelphia will host the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers this coming Sunday. One of our own West family members will be cheering on our favorite team as she has been doing all season! Alexa Monteleone, daughter of West's library assistant Maureen Monteleone, is one of the fabulous Eagles Cheerleaders! Alexa attended Schwenksville Elementary, PVMS West and PV High School, graduating in 2014. She graduated from Temple University Magna Cum Laude with two bachelor’s degrees in Journalism and Political Science and is a Paid Social Supervisor at Publicis for pharmaceutical advertising. We could not be more PV Proud of Miss Monteleone!

8th Grade Field Trip to Washington DC

Mark your calendars! 8th Graders at PV East and West will be traveling to Washington, DC on Monday, May 15th. This will be an extended day, departing 6:15 AM and returning by 8:45PM on coach buses. We will be looking for some interested parents to chaperone. Parent chaperones will need to have all of their clearances. More information regarding cost, itinerary, as well as sign up will be coming in the near future.

Principal's Roundtable

There will be a ‘Principal’s Roundtable’ at PV West’s Library (Zieglerville) on Thursday, February 23rd from 6:30 - 8:30PM that will be led by Middle Level Administration and Counseling. The topic will be “Backpacks, Lockers, and Cellphones”. We are looking forward to an engaging conversation with our Middle level parents and students. Please join us!

In addition, if your child receives any immunizations, please submit those as well. Prior to the start of 7th grade, your child will need to receive the Tdap and Meningitis vaccinations, so now is a good time to get those immunizations!

Parents of 7th grade students are required to submit a dental form for your child.

The school physician and the school dentist will be at Middle School West in the Spring of 2023, and your child will be seen by them if the proper form is not handed in prior.

Safe2Say

Our students can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with building administrators.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary. Please see below for more information.

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
