What is cyberbulling?
Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.
Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.
The effects of cyberbulling.
Like all forms of bullying,cyberbulling causes psychological, emotional and physical stress. Each person's response to being bullied is unique, but research has shown some general tendencies. StopBullying.gov reports that youth who are bullied have a higher risk of depression and anxiety.
How spot a cyber bully.
- Becomes withdrawn or shy
- Shows signs of depression
- Is extremely moody or agitated
- Is anxious or overly stressed out
- Shows signs of aggressive behavior
How to stop cyberbulling.
- Look for signs of harassment.
- Look for signs of public humiliation.
- Look for signs of impersonation.
- Save the evidence.
- Block the bully.
- Don't wait too long to ask for help.
