JAGUAR UPDATE
Sunset Valley Elementary 10/8/16
Jaguar Corner
Parent/teacher conferences are almost here! This means that the Great Pumpkin is just around the corner!!! I will be sending a letter home concerning the Fall parties, but here are some highlights:
- Grades K-3 will have the opportunity to wear their costumes for the school parade.
- Grades 4-6 are the audience.
- Students are not to pass out food/candy to classmates due to allergy and food restrictions.
- No face paint and/or hair paint. Sorry! Save that for trick or treating!
- Students will not wear their costumes to school. They will place their costumes over their school clothes.
- Please keep the creepy accessories at home - swords, guns, axes, etc. Principals are easily scared!
- Students will wear their costumes home from school. We don't want them to leave them at school. No costume = less candy! Now that is SCARY!!!
Note from Mrs. Taylor!
Remember these from last week:
- I can take good care of myself, even if I am mad or have an overwhelming feeling.
- I can be okay, even when others are not okay.
- I can be productive and follow directions, even if I don’t want to.
We teach each of these three goals, as a way to express to our students that we will need these skills throughout our entire life. This week, I'd like to touch on Goal #2: I can be okay even when others are not okay!
BIST Tip: Goals for Life #2
“It was their fault. They started it!” Sound familiar? When kids have difficulty accepting responsibility for their actions it is easy to blame others. As adults we need to validate each student’s feelings while holding them responsible for their part in the conflict. “It sounds like you were angry when he pushed you which made you want to push back. But, at school that is not okay. How can you be okay when others are not okay?”
