Principal Walder's Monday Memo
For the week of November 18th
The Fear of Feedback
For this week, I am out Monday through Thursday at a Continuous School Improvement Conference. From the pre-conference review, I am sure we will review our own ideas about school, how we lead, and reflect on our practices. We will need to be open to our own reflections on practices as school administrators.
As educators, we are often part of the feedback cycle, but on the other end. We provide the feedback in order for our students to improve-- mastering skills.
In the TEDx talk below, Joe Hirsch discusses how he came to a place that he needed to learn to feed forward and how he came to grow this ability in himself. What an amazing skill... and what a skill that we could teach our students for their own lives. How do we teach students to not fear feedback?
Please take 9 minutes this week as a grade-level teaching team (or SPED team) to listen to this TEDx Talk below by Joe Hirsch and answer the following question.
- How can you help students "feed-forward" in your classrooms?
OR
- How do you already help students to "feed-forward" in your classrooms?
