Community-Wide Announcements & Reminders

Access Card Update

This week students received their door access cards as locked campus went into effect. The transition has been smooth and both students, and staff, are quickly adjusting to the new expectations.

If your child still does not have their access card, it is because the Student Access Card agreement form needs to be completed. It can be found on the parent Power School site under “forms”.

In the event that a student loses their card, a $5 replacement fee will be assessed and the original card will be deactivated.

School Highlights

Saber Spotlight

Our first Saber Spotlight of the year was a huge success! The Theatre was packed with students playing “Happy Robin, Sad Robin” as student leaders reviewed the Souhegan Six in action, we discussed implementing our new key card system, and student representatives talked about Community Council and Ethics Forum. We are looking forward to involving more students in Saber Spotlight and making this biweekly school community gathering to be as collaborative and engaging as possible.

Learning Commons

The Learning Commons is a space for students to work, get support, and spend time during free periods. We offer math support every single period and writing conferences most periods. We open at 8:10 each morning and close at 3:40. Students without free periods can access Learning Commons support during Saber Flex class with teacher permission. Check tinyurl.com/SouheganLearningCommonsSupport to see what tutors are available each period.

Argentina Trip 2024

Souhegan is going to Argentina! Over February vacation in 2024, Aimee Gibbons and Matt McDonald will take a group of students to Argentina for the trip of a lifetime. This seven-day trip will feature tours of historical and cultural sites in Buenos Aires, a visit to a ranch (with horseback riding!), a ferry ride across the Rio de la Plata for lunch in Uruguay, a train ride to El Tigre, and more. The cost includes airfare, hotel, breakfasts and dinners, and a local guide. For additional information, go to explorica.com/Gibbons-6045 or talk to Aimee Gibbons in room 131 or Matt McDonald in the Learning Commons. We will also have a short meeting at 4:45 on Wednesday 10/4 right before open house night.

Senior Year Notes

Senior Dues

Senior dues are $50. They cover some of the class hike, class trip, class gift, graduation BBQ, and t-shirts. Checks can be made out to the SHS Activities Fund with student name and “senior dues” in the memo and handed to Lynda Conley in Student Services. Online payments can be made here.

Senior Hike

The senior class hike is Wednesday, October 18th! There is no cost to seniors, and lunch is provided. Bring your own water, snacks, and appropriate-for-hiking clothing. We will leave school that day at 8:00 (so you have to get up a little earlier!) and be back around 1:30. Click here for the permission slip, which you should return to Lynda Conley, Sarah Barbato, or Matt McDonald.

Community News

Our Dean of Students and Groundskeeper will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday, September 19 in the Learning Commons. This is a great opportunity to not only show pride in Souhegan’s campus - both inside and out - but students may also have the opportunity to learn how to use yard and landscaping equipment. Participation in this club, should enough interest be shown, will provide participants with community service hours.

What is your role at Souhegan?

Main Office Admin Assistant

How long have you been with Souhegan?

This is my second year at Souhegan, my first year in the Admin position.

What do you love about your job?

I love being able to interact with all of the staff and students! Simply put; I love to help! Whether it's helping a student make photo copies, ordering supplies, interacting with community members or creating organizational systems, I love it all.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I love hanging out with my husband, our two dogs and our guinea pigs. I love exploring New England and all it has to offer. We love to dine out, we travel for food and then explore wherever we end up. I love music, photography and crafting. Being a tourist in my own backyard (Boston) is one of my favorite things to do!

If you were given one wish what would it be?

I would wish for time to slow down.

Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?

Bloom where you're planted!
