Thank You Marigold

I have fond memories of being part of the Marigold Jr Viking Family when my daughter Megan was a student here in kindergarten through 6th grade from 2000-2007. I joined the Marigold Staff in the fall of 2010 teaching 1st/2nd grade.

I've made some lifelong friends and will cherish all the memories I've made here. Thank you for my wonderful "Ms. Loy Day" last Tuesday . . . it was awesome! I appreciate all the letters, cards, hugs, and treats (and all of you who dressed in my favorite combo of red and black).

In my retirement I plan to travel (I leave for a 2 week trip to Uganda on June 12th), spend time with family/friends, play tennis and pickle ball, ride my bike, catch up on scrap booking projects and of course, go on longer walks with my dog Otis in the cool mornings!

Again, thank you all for eight wonderful years at Marigold. I will miss you!

Are You Moving??

If you have plans to move over the summer and will not be returning to Marigold for the 2018/19 school year, please contact the office now. We do not want to assign your child a teacher if they will not be attending next year. Thank you in advance for your notification.

READ READ READ READ READ

Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books. They simply read a designated number of books - library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble - write about their favorite part in our Reading Journal and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them.

New Hashtag for All to Use

Hello Families!

We have some pretty amazing things that are happening at Marigold and often you capture them and share on social media. We will be using the new #jrvikesUNITE hashtag on our shares and encourage you to use it too. We plan to order some merchandise like stickers, pencils, and shirts with the hashtag. We'll have items for sale next school year. The students are also being taught a simple, new Jr. Vikes Unite cheer. It's just one more way to celebrate the wonderful things we love about Marigold!

GIRLS ON THE RUN NEWS

GOTR will only be offered at Marigold in the fall semester - don't miss out!

Girls on the Run is a confidence-building empowerment program for 3rd-5th grade girls. It meets twice a week in small teams of 8 to 15 girls. They learn life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. Running is used to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. At the season's conclusion, the girls complete a community service project and a 5K fun run.

Register online at www.gotrnorthstate.org

Registration opens May 21. First come - First serve thru August 28 (if space is still available)

Letter on Safety from the District

Parents,

In light of the tragic situation in Parkland Florida, Chico Unified School District has reviewed our school safety procedures. One of the areas that CUSD has made some minor modifications to increase student safety is our fire drill practices. After consultation with our local fire department and police department, CUSD has added one additional step into our fire drill protocol.

Now, barring any immediate fire threat such as smelling smoke or seeing flames, classes will hold in place in their rooms for a minute while school personnel verify it is safe to proceed with the fire drill. We feel this added verification step will significantly add to student safety on campus. The minute spent holding in place will allow the school an opportunity to check for strangers on campus.

CUSD has also received questions from families as to how they can communicate with the school in the event of a lock down situation. CUSD has committed to keeping parents as informed as possible in the most timely manner we are able. In the event of a code red at a school, CUSD will send out an auto-dialer message as soon as possible to affected families. Please be sure to share any phone number changes so that you are able to receive an auto-dialer message. In addition to the auto-dialer, CUSD will have a designated, easily accessible portion of our website displaying information about code red situations as promptly as we receive information.

We also strongly encourage parents not to call the school site and tie up phone lines during an Code Red situation. It is very likely we will not be able to answer the phone as we will be busy securing the school site and communicating with Police and Fire Departments. Secondly, please do not come to the school site during a Code Red Lockdown. During this time all classrooms are locked and students will not be permitted to leave until the situation is resolved. Remember, it is our top priority to keep all students safe during emergency situations. Thank you and if you have questions please do not hesitate to contact the site principal.

Chico Unified School District wants out families to feel their child is safe with us and that they are receiving the most timely information possible.

2018-2019 TK & Kinder Registration

Registration for the 2018-19 school year is ongoing now. To enter school in the fall, a child must be five years old on or before September 1, 2018. To enter Transitional Kindergarten, a child must turn five between September 2, 2018 and December 2, 2018. Parents should register their children with the school serving their residence area. Proof of residence is required.

Parents are strongly encouraged to register on the above date. Priority will be assigned based on the date of registration. The time of day that registration occurs will not constitute a priority. All children will be accepted, but some may have to attend a school other than the one serving their residence area. If your student is currently attending TK in the Chico Unified School District, there is no need to register again for kindergarten.

The following are required to register a child: (1) proof of date of birth is required (birth certificate, baptismal certificate, or other legal proof), (2) two forms verifying proof of residency, and (3) written immunization record from a physician, nurse, or health department. Children must be immunized for MMR - measles, mumps and rubella (German measles), polio, DTaP - diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough), Hepatitis B, and Varicella (chicken pox) prior to school entry.
