December 25 - January 5: Winter break

2018-2019 FORM 10s

Form 10s for the 2018-19 school year will be available beginning December 4, 2017. Form 10s will be considered in the lottery if turned in by 4:00 p.m. on January 12, 2018.

All students living in the Marigold attendance area funnel to Bidwell Jr High. If your 5th grade student is here on a Form 10, please don't assume they will go to Bidwell. The approved Form 10 ends when they leave elementary school. If you are not sure which Jr High your child will attend based on your address, we are happy to help you in the office. If you desire a different Jr High, you must submit a new Form 10 no later than January 12, 2018.

Absence Reporting

If your student is ill, please call or email Molly the morning of the absence. The contact info is: mgarcia@chicousd.org OR 891-3121. Both options are available to you 24/7 so feel free to call/email as early as possible. If you know days in advance your student will be out, it is very helpful to know that as well. Thank you.

Salvation Army Canned Food and Toy Drive

Marigold students are participating in the annual Salvation Army Toy and Food drives this holiday season. We have big red barrels outside our office door just waiting for your donation! We can accept new, unwrapped toys until 12/5 and non perishable food until 12/18. On behalf of all our students, we thank you in advance for your generosity.

Holiday Letter to Parents

December 1, 2017

Dear Parents,

Are you planning a family trip for the holidays? As you think about your arrangements, we want to stress the importance of sending your child to school every day possible. Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after the winter holiday as families squeeze in a few more vacation days. It's time to break that cycle. We know that just a few missed days here and there, even if they're excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and put your child behind in school. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school. Put simply, too many absences at any age can affect a student's chances for academic success and eventually for graduation.

We recognize that holidays are an important time for reconnecting with families far away. The costs of plane tickets often influence when you want to travel. But keep in mind the costs to your children's education if they miss too much school - and the message you will be sending about the importance of attendance. Even if you've got a homework packet from the teacher, it doesn't make up for the interaction and learning that happens in the classroom. Our teachers will be teaching, and out students will be learning, right up until vacation starts and the first day back. You can help us convey that message. This holiday season, give your children the gift of an education and the habit of attendance.

Sincerely,

Marigold Staff
