Principal Update 1/29/24
Good Morning Memorial Families,
What a week it was. I am still recovering from all of the week's events, but it was a great time! The week began with three of our students sharing so eloquently about our school newspaper, the MES Press, with the MURSD School Committee. They represented our student body and our school community so well, and we were so proud of the. On Tuesday night we held our fourth grade chorus concert. Those of us who grew up in the 1980s were treated to some familiar tunes such as "Don't Worry, Be Happy", "True Colors", and "We are the World". Mr. Heath always gives students the opportunity to sing challenging and relevant music and this year was no different! Wednesday night at Kindergarten Information Night, Lauren and I had an opportunity to meet some of the new families who will join our school family in September. It is hard to believe we are already looking ahead to 2024-2025. And finally, the week ended with my first experience with the Harlem Wizards. A Mendon-Upton tradition that has been on hiatus for a few years since I began, the Wizards did not disappoint on Saturday night. We had a great turnout representing Memorial for the MURSD Dream Team; Sr. Garcia, Sr. Dominguez, Sra. Moreno, Sra. Ibanez, Mrs. Smith, Ms. Campbell, Ms. Chuk and me. I am a bit sore, but am proud to have made it up and down the court a few times and enjoyed the atmosphere. Thank you to all who attended and supported the Mendon Upton Education Foundation in one of their largest fundraisers that supports our schools.
This week is a bit quieter, and we will ease out way into the month of February. Hopefully we are not impacted too much by weather, but it is the time of year that you just never know day by day what the forecast will bring to us. We are in the midst of our midyear benchmark assessments with iReady and with DIBELs. I am so excited to celebrate the growth that we are seeing with our students at the midpoint of the school year.
Have a wonderful week!
Wendy and Lauren
