Expanded Services Parent Update
September 13, 2023
Happy September!
Dear Parents,
We are off to a great start! Our goal during the first weeks of school is to help students learn their new schedules, get to know their mentors and teachers, and leave each day with a smile.
We are impressed with all of our students and the progress they have each shown in just 2 weeks.
We are working with a great group of peer mentors and teachers throughout the school.
Please read thoroughly regarding upcoming events through the rest of September and into October.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT ~ THURSDAY, 9/14
There is a related early dismissal at 1:25 and delayed opening on 9/14.
Students should arrive to school at 9:30 on Friday, 9/15 rather than 7:30.
Back to School Night is for parents/guardians and not for students.
We hope you can make it!

September 14: Back to School Night (Parents only) - 7pm

September 21: 1:25 Dismissal

Please look ahead at the October school Calendar, which includes Homecoming and more.
Oct 11: ONLY FRESHMEN to school for Freshmen Retreat. No school for students receiving ES in grades 10, 11, 12.
Oct 13: NO SCHOOL for students receiving Expanded Services, ALL GRADES
We are working to plan a service opportunity on October 13, 10 - 12pm. This will NOT be a school sponsored activity and parents will need to coordinate for driving and chaperoning. 2 Teachers will be attending to assist. More details to come. It will be located in either Mclean or Crystal City.
CHRISTIAN SERVICE REQUIREMENT
Please note that all students have a CANVAS page for Christian Service. I am working more closely with the Christian Service coordinator, Katie Hofer (mhofer@bishopoconnell.org) this year to provide more customization.
All parents must go on the Canvas page and complete the Service Agreement for their son/daughter.
You will note we are working to coordinate 7 hours of service for students receiving Expanded Services IN SCHOOL and, providing the student participates in the in-school service opportunities, parents will be responsible to cover the remaining 3 hours.
We will utilize some assembly blocks and another opportunity during mid-term week when students are not participating in exams to work on service projects.
Service hours are a graduation requirement.
More information to come!
These early weeks of school are full, so another update will be out soon.
