Dear Parents,
Enter the month of May! It catches me by surprise each year when we realize that there are only a few weeks left in the school year! May is packed with so many activities! Teacher Appreciation Week has already begun and continues through this week with Donuts with Moms (now called Munchies with Moms, but the menu is the same) on Friday, May 6, as well as our annual Spring Fling that afternoon from 5-8 PM. We hope you will be able to join us! For our full calendar, you can always visit our website to see what's coming up. Click here to visit our school calendar.
We do still have Student Growth Assessments in grades k-3, and some end-of-year benchmarks in grades 4-5. These will help us to measure student growth in ALL subjects and grades. We are dedicating the month of May to enriching the curriculum for advanced learners and providing a little extra help for students who may need remediation in some areas. Our goal is to do everything possible to prepare students for success in the next grade level. Thank you for everything YOU do to help them as well!
Speaking of which, don't forget all the fun ways you can include academics during the summer. Use fractions to double recipes, continue to expose students to money by having them count up how much to pay or by making change. And as always, read! Visit Get Georgia Reading to gain access to more than 10,400 free books to computer and mobile devices that are accessible 24 hours per day every day through August 31! Instructions for logging on are included on the website!
Please let us know if we can help with anything, at any time. We can be reached at 770-463-5903.

Kindness Week April 11-15 at Arbor Spring!
Thank you to all the staff and students who helped make kindness week one to remember! Although, we should strive to be kind everyday, it was nice to see students going out of their way to brighten up another student’s day!
Swimming in a School of Character:
This month’s character word is honesty. Honesty means being truthful and sincere. Honesty is a virtue and it can be taught to children. Teaching honesty to children is part of moral and emotional development. The quality of honesty helps to develop character and self-esteem. Teaching honesty by example is very effective. It is important to be a role model to your child, when it comes to leading by example. Be honest with children at a level that they can understand. Using words that the child can understand, explain what honesty means in your family. Then continue to remind the child:
“This is the way we do things in our family.”
“We tell the truth.”
“We do not take what is not ours.”
“If we have done something dishonest, we own up to it.”
“We tell the truth even when it is hard to do.”
“When you tell the t
ruth people will respect you, and you will feel better about yourself.”“I might not like what you have to tell me, and there might be a consequence, but I will respect you for telling the truth.”
(Teaching Honesty by Bette Freedson ,2014)
Arbor Springs needs your help! A mentor provides additional attention and support for students and serves as a guide, a counselor, and a friend. Please email me, (keivia.clay@cowetaschools.net) if you are interested in becoming a mentor for next school year!

PTA and Boxtops Corner
Thanks again to everyone who sent in Box Tops for our Spring Fling contest – we hope the kids enjoy their “free” tickets to Spring Fling. Our PTA Board members have been working hard since January to secure many donations for our Spring Fling Silent Auction and our Room Moms are doing an awesome job putting the class baskets together. Please check them all out Friday evening and BID, BID, BID! All the money goes directly back into ASES. Thanks again to the Room Moms and all parents who volunteered to send in cakes and money and work at their class booth – Spring Fling is a fun, collaborative effort!

Nurse's Notes
Can you believe it!! Only 19 days left until summer vacation!! Summer will be fun but…Fifth graders…I will miss you!! We have been together for a long time. And this will be the first time in my 14 years at Arbor Springs that I will not be going to school with one of my own children! So this year is especially dear to me as Cora moves on to Madras! But, I am very excited for you as you embark on a new journey called “middle school.”
**For all Pre-K parents…every student entering Kindergarten must have a NEW Hearing, Vision and Dental Form (form 3300). Many will also need immunizations before starting Kindergarten. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to call.
***And last but not least if your child has medications at school they must be picked up by 2:30p on May 27 – the last day of school. If not they will be thrown away. I will be sending a reminder letter home next week.
See you next year!! Rebecca Sims, RN
