Peel board declares May 1 as Toonie Friday to support Nepal earthquake relief effort
April 28, 2015
“When something happens in another part of the world, we are always ready to do our part in helping others,” says Tony Pontes, director of education at the Peel board. “It is important to emphasize global citizenship to our students and help those in need. We know that we are part of such a giving community and are confident that our campaign will be successful.”
UNICEF Canada is already on the ground in Kathmandu, Nepal, providing relief to earthquake victims, including nearly a million children. Donations will go towards purchasing medical supplies, and providing clean water and shelter for families displaced in this disaster. If just 25 students bring a toonie each, that $50 can provide 20 litres of therapeutic milk to children in need.
