GJSHS Scientists Get Their Hands Dirty
Mr. Farris' 9th and 10th grade science students were learning about erosion this past week and building models. With all of the rain we have had these past few days, they are sure to see this around our area.
GJSHS Culinary--Don't Eat This!
This past week, the GJSHS Culinary 1 class made something you definitely DON'T want to eat! Playdough! The Culinary Class under the direction of Mrs. Dolphin made playdough for Indian Valley Elementary students to have during these winter months when we have days of indoor recess. Thank you, Mrs. Dolphin and Culinary 1 students!
Jr. High (7-9) Honor Chorus
Sam Bell and Emma Hampton spent two days at Chico State University January 18th and 19th rehearsing with the North State Junior High Honor Chorus (6-9th grade). Chorus teacher Marsha Roby taught them six songs in English, Latin and Swahili and they rehearsed them with 100 other students from the North State culminating in a wonderful concert Saturday for family, friends and the general public.
GJSHS First Semester Report Cards
Report cards for the first semester were mailed home on Friday, February 1. Eligibility for extra-curricular activities, such as sports, will be determined on Sunday, February 3. Please utilize the parent portal on Aeries to view student progress. You can also email teachers directly from the parent portal. Please visit the GJSHS office if you need assistance.

Possible Name Change for IVES
During the past several weeks as we are working on Measure B projects around campus, we have been designing a new electronic marquee. During the design process, a discussion arose of changing the name of Indian Valley Elementary School back to Greenville Elementary School. We have received staff input, but would like your input as well. Please use this link to a survey to tell us your thoughts: https://goo.gl/forms/uCojPjqXdez54Vcp2. Responses will be accepted through February 12.

Staff Feature
This week's staff feature is Mrs. Heidi Kingdon. This year, Mrs. Kingdon is teaching a 4/5 combination class at IVES. She has been teaching at IVES for 3 years, but brought many years of experience when she joined our staff. She brings a love of math to our students and her class last year had the highest scores in the district on the math portion of the CAASPP. She is a member of our School Site Council as well as our Safety Committee. She also serves as an Induction Coach for a new teacher in our district. Both of Mrs. Kingdon's parents and one of her grandfathers graduated from GJSHS. Although she did not grow up in Indian Valley, she visited frequently as a child to visit grandparents and aunts and uncles. Her husband is also a graduate of GJSHS and her two school-age children attend IVES. We are so thankful to have someone like Mrs. Kingdon who is so involved and dedicated to the community on our staff at IVES.

IVES needs BOX TOPS!
Send your Box Tops in with students or drop them by the IVES office. The money we receive from the Box Tops goes right back into the classrooms! Thank you for your assistance!
A Note from Our District Nurse
We Need Your Help
We receive Title I and other federal funding for our school based on the number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Because of the grant PUSD received to have all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, many families have not completed the confidential income verification form. This can be done easily through your parent portal or we have forms available in each school office. We use these funds for extra interventions for our students, including a classroom paraprofessional who works directly with students. Thank you for completing the form to help us to secure the additional funding.
