From Dr. Schafermeyer - Principal
I hope this e-mail finds you enjoying the weekend with your child!
Over the last few weeks, we've seen our students growing and learning in exciting ways! Sharing their growth and success with families at Parent-Teacher conferences is a milestone in the school year! We have had two busy nights of conferences, and are looking forward to seeing the rest of our families on Th, 11/8/18! Thanks to our PTA for arranging dinner for staff during conferences!
The lost & found at Whittier is filling up with coats and sweatshirts! Items from the lost & found will be donated before Thanksgiving break, so please remind your child to check the lost & found for their items!
Whittier is looking for assistance during the school day with Teacher Assistants, Lunch/Recess aides and a substitute as needed for Crossing Guard. Contact the school office if you think you may be interested in learning more about these positions.
Thank you to Mrs. Zink for an amazing Book Character Pumpkin contest! Over 100 Whittier students participated in creating awesome book characters out of pumpkins! We invite you to come view the pumpkins in the Library at Whittier on Monday, 10/29/18 @ 3:45-4:15pm, or following Coffee with the Principal on Tuesday, 10/30/18 @ 10:15am. If you can't make it in to view the pumpkins, check out the Whittier Elementary Facebook page to view photos!
Thank you for partnering with us to help your child learn and grow!
Fondly,
Dr. Schafermeyer
Principal

Arrival & Dismissal at Whittier
During the first trimester of school, I have been appreciative of parents reaching out to me to share insights into creating safer environments in and around our school. One area that we can all contribute to is safety around arrival.
Arrival: Supervision of students begins at 9am. Many students are arriving to school before 9am and are unsupervised. If your child walks to school, please reiterate to him/her not to arrive before 9am. If he/she is delivered by car, make sure there is school staff available to supervise before you leave.
Dismissal: We know that many of our families prefer to meet their child in the back of Whittier, off of Arbor Avenue, to walk or drive their student home. We have staff available every day at dismissal, monitoring the pick-up of students. Be sure to communicate your child's dismissal changes with our office (630 682 2185), and remember to exercise safety and patience during pick-up.

All are welcome - parents new to the school, ones that have seen many years, anyone who hasn't met Dr. Schafermeyer yet, or those who have had a chance to meet with her during her first months at the school.

Romp & Roar Update
The final numbers are in! Thanks to parental and community support, Romp & Roar earned $24,162! With sincere gratitude to parents and to our anonymous donor, $6,033 was donated during the final push for money last week. All PTA programs are secure and funded for the 2018-19 school year. Thank you to every family who supported our fantastic school and demonstrated what makes Whittier so special. Additionally, we are beyond grateful to our anonymous donor whose generosity and commitment to the school was so evident this week. We humbly thank you all.

- Classroom celebrations will follow the parade. Only pre-registered/approved volunteers may attend classroom celebrations.
