Building Relationships is 90% of the Battle by Shayna Llamas:
I had a wonderful opportunity to spend the day at the Momentus Institute on Wednesday. The Momentus Institute impacts thousands of kids and their families each year. The school focuses on the specific needs of each child and the family situation. They build the social emotional health of their students who then become self-regulated, good communicators, empathetic, grateful, gritty, and optimistic people. I left Momentus on Wednesday with new learning, but I couldn’t stop thinking about one statement the principal made.
“Building relationships is 90% of the battle.”
That statement holds so much truth. Who do you care most about in your life? Who do you work hardest for? Who will you make sacrifices for, or compromise with? The people we have relationships with. The people we love the most. The one‘s whose opinions matter. So how are you building relationships with your students?
Tips for building relationships with your students
- Greet your students at the door each morning.
- Connect, make eye contact every day.
- I noticed statements…
- Show empathy.
