Potranco Parents and Students,
We are closer to the end than we have been. Thank you students and parents for the continued hard work, but I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and give an additional thanks to the teachers and staff at their resilience during this time as well. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and I am so grateful to have such an amazing staff at Potranco. I think during this time, now more than ever the role of a teacher is and should be greatly appreciated and valued. Let’s take advantage of this week and show them how loved they are!
Brenda Estrella-Pagan - Vice Principal
Greetings Potranco Families,
This week we honor our magnificent teachers for their resilience and outstanding job implementing distance learning. These teachers have turned their homes into virtual classrooms, they're constantly researching and learning new ways to enhance their online instruction, and most importantly, they continue to build connections and relationships through a platform that's fairly new to most of us. We definitely are a blessed community.
It's Teacher Appreciation Week!
Coming Up Next Week...

Hello Everyone! I just want to let you know that May is Personal Integrity month. What is Personal Integrity? Personal Integrity is being honest with yourself, being true to your word, being able to live a life with meaning and purpose, and being able to accept your limitations. So ask yourself: How can I be a better person? What things can I do to live a meaningful life? What realistic goals can I set for myself?
I leave you with a few integrity quotes:
"Integrity is the seed for achievement. It is the principle that never fails." – Earl Nightingale
"Integrity is telling myself the truth. And honesty is telling the truth to other people." -Spencer Johnson
"Admitting one’s own faults is the first step to changing them, and it is a demonstration of true bravery and integrity." – Philip Johnson
"Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not." – Oprah Winfrey
Please look over these Digital Social Emotional Learning Resources for all children from infancy through high school, provided by Aperture Education. This week’s focus is Optimistic Thinking.
Students, I miss you so much! I am so proud of all the hard work you are accomplishing! Don’t forget to visit our MVISD COVID Central website to find some great activities you can try at home in the Guidance and Counseling section. I can’t wait to see you all again at the beginning of next school year! Take care and be safe!

10 Ways to Help Reluctant and Struggling Readers at Home
https://clifonline.org/tips-from-a-reading-specialist-how-to-help-reluctant-and-struggling-readers/
Determine the reason for the reluctance and struggling. Is it because the child can’t read, can read but chooses not to, or can read but can’t find anything interesting to read?
Remember to offer encouragement and positive praise. Make the encouragement and positive praise as genuine as possible.
Talk with your child about why he or she is no longer reading. The discussions may be revealing.
Remember the importance of the read-aloud. Returning to the read-aloud may help your child reconnect to reading.
Consider starting at the beginning of the reading process. Work on rhymes, blending, and letters.
Try to determine where the reading problems are. Work on vocabulary, comprehension, and/or fluency.
Is there a need for an eye exam?
Help your child find books that are most interesting.
Play some reading-related games like Scrabble, Scrabble Jr., and Upwords. Play other games and encourage your child to do all of the reading.
Ask your child to do some reading around the home. This includes reading recipes, writing the shopping lists, reading the directions to games, and looking up telephone numbers.
