A Note from the Principal

Dear Parents,

I am sure that everyone has heard the song, "O Come, O Come Emmanuel." The song is most frequently heard BEFORE Christmas. Specifically, the song is sung during the Season of Advent. The words to the song refer to the Israelites who were captive slaves and were waiting for Christ to be born so they could be "ransomed" or set free. The Season of Advent takes place for four weeks/Sundays before Christmas. Each week has a theme: Hope–Peace–Joy–Love. This season is a time when Christians around the world await the Christmas celebration- the birth of Christ. During these waiting weeks we can reflect on these four themes. We should take time to recognize how "hope, peace, joy, and love" effect our lives. Just as those early Christians were hoping that Christ's coming would improve their lives, we should examine how Christ's birth and life have given each of us reason to celebrate the hope, peace, joy, and love that we now have in our lives. Starting on Dec. 2, with the beginning of Advent, our school will be decorated with Advent wreaths with their four candles to remind us to reflect on these themes. Next Wednesday, every child will be taking home an Advent activity calendar with daily ideas for you to use as a family. So let us remember that preparing for Christmas is more than running around getting gifts, but more importantly it is a time to thank God for what he has given us...HOPE, PEACE, JOY, AND LOVE.
