BULLYING AND DEPRESSION

Taylor Barnhardt

Bullying is a leading cause to Depression

Depression has been associated with each of the four types of bullying (physical, verbal, relational, and cyber). Cyber victims reported higher depression than bullies or bully-victims, a result not observed in other forms of bullying.

Bullies

For physical, verbal, and relational bullies, the frequently-involved group of victims and bully victims reported a significantly higher level of depression than the corresponding occasionally involved group. For cyber bullying, differences were found only between the occasional and frequent victims.

Amanda Todd Story

Amanda Todd committed suicide at the age of 15 at her home in Canada. Prior to her death, Todd had posted a video on YouTube in which she used a series of flash cards to tell her experience of being blackmailed into exposing her breasts via webcam; bullied; and physically assaulted. The video went viral after her death, and resulted in international media attention.

"I have nobody...I need somebody."
