SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Kind'.
To be 'inclusive' and welcoming to all our new Vogeltown learners is the 'Vogeltown Way'. We show 'inclusiveness' as part of our school vision of Manaaki Tangata - caring for the people.
Being a 'Vogeltowner' is being a good citizen of our community - someone who is inclusive, respectful, original, courageous and kind.
SCHOOL GOAL: 'TO BE INCLUSIVE'
WHAT: WELCOME BACK TO 2022 – To treat everyone the same, our VS family! Be INCLUSIVE!
WHY:
We are a welcoming school and we want all learners and whanau to feel safe and happy here
Being an ‘inclusive’ learner you show the school vision of ‘Caring of the people’ - Manāki tangata
Vogeltown is one big ‘whanau’ and we welcome & involve all people to our family – being ‘inclusive’
HOW:
By being a ‘Vogeltowner’ you show ‘inclusiveness’ by involving everyone - regardless of creed, race or gender.
By involving anyone in your group - whether it be a game, a class task, sitting together at lunch
By supporting other people and accepting everyone has differences - being collaborative
By being a positive Vogeltown citizen - keeping a positive attitude when working with others
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You can work collaboratively and positively with other people
You are welcoming and accept people into your game, group or task
You can support others - making sure everyone feels included in your group, class and school
You are a ‘Vogeltowner’ showing inclusiveness and Manāki tangata
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others

KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
The classrooms are HUMMING! The amount of awesome work we are seeing on the walls, in books, down the corridor and even on line is amazing! It is great to see the kids so engaged in their learning and the teachers so keen to teach! What an amazing and rewarding place school can be!
This week has been a tough week for our families. To those isolating at home or have kids who have tested positive, we hope you are doing well. Please get in touch with us if you need anything - we are here to help. I have given a covid update for Vogeltown below. However, I want to acknowledge our Vogeltown staff who continue to be professional, adaptable and responsive to this growing and dynamic situation. The Vogetown team always come together when we need to. Thanks team!
In week 10 we are offering Learning Conferences - this will be the first time our teachers and parents/caregivers have actually connected. We want to get 100% attendance to these conferences. We have also made it easier by offering two ways to connect - either in person (masked up) or by Zoom call. We have made the conferences over two nights, so please book in. We are using our free school app this (Skool Loop) to book.
We are looking for new BOT members as of September this year some of our members are finishing their tenure with the school. If you are keen to be a part of this friendly Vogeltown Board of Trustees, or you are keen to find out what the BOT do, then please come along to the BOT meeting this coming Tuesday night. We meet in the Senior Staffroom at 6.30pm - we can even Zoom you in if you would like!
Have a great weekend whanau, and remember HE WAKA EKE NOA - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 8
We are now certainly in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic at Vogeltown. Our attendance is sitting at 75% - this is down by 10% on previous weeks. We are now looking at combining some classes together as we see numbers in each reduced due to having Covid or having to isolate.
We continue to let the whole community know of any positive cases we get in the school through our reporting graphic (see below). If we know of any student who was infectious at school, we will let the class that this learner came from know. This will be in the form of a letter through Seesaw from your classroom teacher and from our eTAP SMS system.
Some changes were announced on yesterday for the country:
* Scanning in using the COVID QR code is no longer needed (but visitors still need to sign in at the office in the usual manner)
* Masks for years 4 and above
* Monitor your child’s health very carefully, and keep them home if they show any symptoms
Isolate for 7 days if there is a COVID case in your household
* We will continue with staggered break times at the senior side to reduce playground congestion and keep our two school sites separate.
* Rooms 6 and 1 pickup times to remain at 2.45pm, as well as the Huatoki team (Middles).
For more detailed information, please refer to:
https://covid19.govt.nz/.../changes-to-the-traffic-light.../
We are expecting more and more cases to crop up at Vogeltown and will continue to communicate with our families. Thanks to the families who are letting us know if they need to isolate or if they are keeping their child home. Please can we ask that you let the school office know as well as the classroom teacher - either by email, Skool Loop, text or call. Our school mobile number is 021 753 680.
LEARNING CONFERENCES WEEK 10
We feel we can do these conferences safely and we ask that all parents/caregivers who come to these conferences in person wear a mask and sign in, then we can go ahead with these very important meetings.
We always aim to get 100% attendance to these conferences, however we realise 2022 is not a normal year again so we have a couple of options to help us get 100%.
If you do not feel comfortable coming in, then we are offering the opportunity to do the conferences via Zoom. When you book the conference there is a question where it will ask if you are happy to do these conferences 'mask to mask' or via zoom, please let us know. If you do choose the 'zoom' option, then we will still do the conference at the time chosen, just digitally. PLEASE NOTE: All of Mrs Irving's (Rm 9) and Mr Bishop's (Rm 10) conferences will be via zoom.
The conferences are held over two nights - the 6th and 7th of April. To get all the conferences completed, we will be closing the school at 2pm on both of these days. In previous years we have had a 'Teacher Only Day' to get all the conferences completed, but we feel doing it from 2:00pm until 7.30pm suited our community better.
To book, please use our free school app - 'Skool Loop'. If you have not used it before, then select 'Taranaki', then select 'Vogeltown School' and you will see a selection of boxes - just tap on the 'interview' box. You will then need to select your child's teacher (the room is written beside their name) and then a day, time and whether you want to do it at school or via zoom.
Thanks for your support of these very important conferences.
