Baxter Buzz

A family Newsletter: Week of September 10th

Such a fun week!

This week has been such a blast! It was so much fun to welcome and greet our grandparents as they came in to eat with us! We had such an amazing turnout! We also had our 2nd ring meeting this afternoon with our buddy grades (kinder met with 5th, 1st met with 3rd and 2nd met with 4th) and it is so neat to watch those relationships begin to form and hopefully bonds that will last a long time! I love when I see one of our older students greeting and welcoming our younger friends! It is important to us at Baxter that we create and model a family atmosphere where everyone has a place!

If you every have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to send me an email, give me a call or swing by for a visit. Open communication is very important to me and my door is always open!

Porch Pick-Up

In order to maintain the safety of our students and staff, porch pick will no longer be available in the afternoons. Your child may ride the bus, go to daycare, be a walker, or be a car rider. We are working with the MISD Safety and Security team to ensure that the car line is safe while still being efficient as well. Thank you so much for your understanding and helping us to keep all of our students safe.

Campus Character Rings!

THE YELLOW RING IS IN THE LEAD AT THE END OF THIS WEEK!! CONGRATS YELLOW!!

I hope your kids came home very excited and committed to be their very best!

A little about our campus Character Rings: Each ring has its own philosophy and meaning shown in the graphic above. The rings work in synergy and with healthy competition. During the course of the school year, students earn points for their ring for citizenship, behavior, academics, and getting caught doing anything well. A running total is maintained and a weekly champion is announced. The ring totals will continue throughout the year until the winning ring is selected for the year.

We are very excited about this positive behavior reinforcement and look forward to the fun that is to come!! Your child received a t-shirt in their ring color! We encourage everyone to wear their ring shirt on FRIDAYS!!

Parent Volunteers

It has been such a huge Blessing to have so many volunteers up at the school partnering with us!! Thank you to each of you that have signed up so far!!

Each week you will see links to sign up sheets for particular activities!

Also, PLEASE SEE THE BACKGROUND FORM BELOW! It must be completed before you can volunteer! PLEASE PRINT AND RETURN TO THE FRONT OFFICE!

Golden Nuggets from our Counselor, Mrs. Golden

We are a few weeks in now and it is definitely time to find our groove. The first couple of weeks can be very tiring for the whole family, but getting back into a groove is both healthy and beneficial for the whole family. Here are a few tips in helping with getting in the groove.

  • Reestablish bedtime & morning routines
  • Determine homework schedule
  • Set up well-supplied study area
  • Keep a large calendar of family activities (different color for each family member)
  • Limit outside activities
  • Scale back digital device/TV time
  • Develop a night before school routine
  • Set up a designated area for important school notices
  • Make a list of school contacts
  • Establish a family reading time
  • Make a back-up plan for emergencies (sick child, after school-care)
  • Share the excitement!

Hearing and Vision Screenings

Next week (September 10-14) I will begin screening all PreK, Kinder, 1st, 3rd and 5th grade students as well as new to district 2nd and 4th grade students.

If your child wears glasses please be sure they are wearing their glasses to school, they will need them for the screening.

If your child does not pass the initial screening they will be re-screened in 2 - 3 weeks. In the event they do not pass the second screening I will contact you and a referral to physician form will be sent home. Only students that do not pass screenings will be contacted (early October).
