Resources to Support Remote Learning - April 10, 2020
Thank you families- this is hardwork!
Hello families! Please know that all of the contact and information that has coming at you is with the best of intentions to support you and your student through this transition to remote learning. We would all much rather be with your students in class, but are going to do the best that we can to support them from afar.
We recognize the information is overwhelming and you are balancing helping your child's instruction as well as manage all the other aspects of this new way of living for all of us. Our district guidance is to offer learning activities and videos that will engage them for a part of their normal school day. The majority of the resources are available for you and your child when you have the time to access them. Please also take time to enjoy the sun, read, snuggle up to watch a movie together, cook alongside your child and follow their lead of what interests them. Thank you for being our teaching partners. We appreciate and value you and your hard work in maintaining a calm, caring environment for your families. This is hard. We know that. Just be patient with yourself, with your child and with us. All we can each do is try our best in these new circumstances. We need to have grace with ourselves and each other.
Our district has been working for weeks to prepare Chromebooks for elementary students. If your child did not already receive a Chromebook in Round 1 or Round 2, and still needs one, please reach out to your child's teacher to let them know you still need a device. We will then be in touch with you soon with a specific date, time and location for pick-up of the Chromebook because it takes several days to prepare, sanitize, bar code and package up the devices.
Moving into digital, remote learning requires teachers to reach out to students via zoom, google hangouts, email, and phone. If you have any questions, concerns, or do not want your student to interact with a teacher via “visual” tool, i.e. zoom or google hangouts, please let me know. If you do not want your student to communicate with a teacher via phone, please let me know. Please know that all staff has been given guidance on how to communicate professionally via the tools listed above.
There are many resources below to help support you- internet, food, tech help as well as other resources available in our community. Our next newsletter will talk more about distance learning, but for now, we want to make sure your family has the resources are ready to be successful.
Since we can't hold our traditional Coffee with the Principals at school, we wanted to hold them virtually. Our first one will be this Friday, April 17th at 1:00pm. Feel free to bring questions, appreciations for us to pass onto teachers & staff or suggestions. Please remember that we want to connect with each and every student and family. Please respond to teachers' outreach and activities on SeeSaw, email and by phone. They are working hard and want to know you are all ok!

Community Resource Fund and Food Box Program Update
We completed our first week roll-out with a very successful 725 boxes distributed!
Funds are shared with a Food Pantry order team (last week that was $10,000 order, 38,000 lbs. of food). The food gets delivered to the Disaster Response Site (DRS) at Beaverton Foursquare Church on Thursday, and is then packed on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Delivery teams of BSD Staff arrive at the packing site, load up their cars on Tues., Wed., Thurs., and then they distribute 50 boxes each at 11:00 a.m. to select BSD Grab & Go meal sites over two weeks. Families can take a box while the kids get their lunch bag on a first come, first served basis.
The more money that is raised the more food we can buy, boxes prepared, sites we can add and served more often. In just 10 days we've grown from 200 to 725 boxes!
Next date at Vose: Tuesday, April 21st at 11am
