The Lion's Share Newsletter

April 2021

From the Desk of Mr. Miller:

Grant Families,

I hope that the April newsletter finds you well! I appreciate you taking the time to check out the happenings this month at Grant!

As we near the end of this school year, we have some state assessments that we are gearing up for. You can find some of the details regarding the assessments below. We also have some fun heading your way as well! Please be sure to check out the information on our 10 Days of STEAM! With your participation in the 10 Days of STEAM, your Lion will have the chance to win a Dash robot! We will select one Lion from each grade level to win one of these really cool robots!

In other news, we are working on putting together a 3 week summer school program here at Grant that we are hoping to begin in early June. We know that this year has been a tough one for many of our students and we want to offer some of our students the opportunity to join us for those additional weeks of learning. As we hope to finalize those plans in the next week or two, please be on the lookout for more information for our Summer Bridge program here at Grant.

Finally, I would like to ask for a big favor of all of you. We have had several close calls the last few weeks having to potentially quarantine cohorts here at Grant due to COVID exposure. If we have to quarantine a cohort, that would mean that students would move to remote learning at home during a set amount of time (typically 10-14 days). If anyone in your household gets a COVID test, please keep your student home until those results come in. If someone in your home gets a test and your student attends school while awaiting the results, we may have to quarantine the cohort and numerous staff members if that family member comes back with a positive test result. This would include a student being tested for COVID prior to having a medical procedure. Please keep them home until results come in! Please know that we will be more than happy to work with you and support you as best we can if your student needs to stay home due to someone being tested in your home. We have continued to work hard to keep our cohorts separate and safe while at school and I am asking for your help to ensure we can all stay at school!

As always, if you need anything or have any questions, please feel free to contact me!

Thank you,

Ryan Miller

State Testing (CMAS)

Each year, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) requires students in grades 3-5 to be assessed by taking the Colorado Measures of Academic Success, or CMAS, test. These tests will be held here at Grant from April 12 - 16. This year, the CDE is reducing the number of tests that Colorado students typically take. Here are the state requirements for this year:

3rd Grade: English Language Arts (ELA)

4th Grade: Math

5th Grade: English Language Arts (ELA)

If you have any questions regarding CMAS, please reach out to our Teaching and Learning Coach, Susan Schneider. She can be reached at 719.328.5737 or via email at susan.schneider@d11.org

COVID Reminders

  • Lion families, please continue to ensure that students are arriving to school each day with their mask. Until we receive updates from both the state and county departments with different requirements, all students and staff must wear masks while at school. Each day, we have approximately 25 students arrive to school without a mask. We also replace lost and broken masks as well each day. As you can imagine, we go through many masks each week and hope you will help us by sending your student with a mask each day!
  • If your student or someone in your direct household is tested for COVID, we ask that you keep your student home until the test results come in. If your student has been at school while someone in your household awaits a test and that test comes back positive, there is a great chance that the entire cohort (the grade level) will have to quarantine.
  • Please communicate with the school if there is a COVID test that has been administered in your household. We would be happy to make accommodations for you and your student until those test results come in. We need your help to ensure that we don't have to quarantine any students or staff!
