The Spencer Scoop

Spencer Elementary May 14, 2021

On behalf of the teachers and staff, I would like to thank our families and the PTO for all the goodies last week for Teacher Appreciation Week. The staff enjoyed the seed packets, the gourmet popcorn, the raffle & gifts made by the students, and the Maui Wowi smoothies! We are certainly blessed with AMAZING teachers and AMAZING families here at Spencer Elementary.

Office News

Please Continue to Wear a Mask at Pick Up

While the MDHHS guideline states that at outdoor gatherings of under 100 people, you do not have to wear a mask, we are kindly asking that you still wear a mask when you come to pick up your child at the end of the day. We do have some immune-compromised individuals at Spencer and we appreciate in an effort to keep everyone safe, that everyone continue to wear their mask while at Spencer. Thank you for your cooperation.

Stop Stressing Out About Spending 'Quality Time' With Your Kids. What you think "quality time" means and what science says it means are two very different things. Take a listen to this week's podcast and take a deep breath. You'll thank me later!

COVID-19 Self-Reporting

If a member in your Spencer students household is awaiting test results for COVID-19, please DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL UNTIL THE TEST RESULTS ARE DETERMINED. If the results come back positive, please fill out the Self-Reporting Form below. Thank you for your cooperation as we try to keep our Spencer community safe!

COVID Communication

In an attempt to not over-communicate to families at Spencer with emails regarding positive Covid 19 cases, BAS is no longer sending community-wide emails to all parents and guardians for each case, at each building.

We ARE, of course, still sending emails to ALL students, parents, and staff facing mandated quarantines and ALL parents, students, and staff who have been in classrooms where a positive COVID-19 case has been reported.

Families of those directly impacted receive direct communication regarding any new cases. If you have any questions regarding COVID-19, please feel free to visit our district's COVID-19 transparency site at"

In addition, the Livingston County Health Department is no longer receiving the reports of positive COVID-19 tests of adults between the ages of 19-64 from the testing sites. For this reason, they are requesting that our parent/guardians self-report if they have tested positive or exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 to allow for the necessary contact-tracing within our school. You will find the link to the to the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form below...

Final Counselor's Corner of the School Year

Well, we made it to the final stretch of the year! The last month, when the sun is shining and energy is high! And after so many months of hurdles and challenges, it is time to celebrate all that we accomplished and overcame during this school year. From masks and cohort bubbles to virtual lessons and synchronous learning, we have done it all in a year like no other. The Elementary Counselors would like to take time this month to celebrate our students and highlight their amazing strengths with a Social-Emotional lesson centered around self-concept. We plan to take time with classrooms to reflect on what we CAN DO, what we DO WELL, and what makes us UNIQUE. We want to end this year on a positive note and recognize how truly resilient our students are, and we hope that you take some time at home to do this as well.

Thank you for the amazing support from our staff and parents as we worked to connect with and support all of our students this year. We are already working towards our plans for next school year and look forward to expanding our avenues of support.

Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.

More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!
