Placerita Jr. High School - January 27, 2020
This Week at Placerita 1.27.2020
Welcome to Week Three of Third Quarter!
I would like to thank everyone for putting up with all the crazy traffic and construction vehicles blocking the carpool lanes. They have a few weeks left and should be complete before the end of February. A lot of the concrete and paving work has been completed so hopefully this week will be a little less congested. This Thursday you may notice some extra traffic because of a county PBIS meeting in Tanner Hall.
On Tuesday our National Junior Honor Society mandatory student meeting to prepare for induction will be from 2:45-3:20 in the gym.
Our Interim Assessments for the CAASPP training will begin this week. Adam sent an email back on January 15th that described the process we will follow. Here is an excerpt from that email:
This year we will be utilizing the CAASPP Interim Assessment Administration Resources to assist and support our teachers and students in preparation for this year's CAASPP. These interim assessments will provide students useful interactions with the variety of questions and CAASPP interface, and teachers will be able to access, interpret, and apply intentional teaching with their students' results. Ultimately, our goal is to improve our performance on the CAASPP each year and this is a method we hope will lead us to that end result.
Schedule: There will be four dates with a modified schedule (attached) in which students will take one interim assessment (ELA or math). The 5th period teacher will administer the test (training will be provided). Students who complete the test before the allotted time concludes should begin reading for DEAR. A final session will occur on April 15th which will culminate with student goal setting. More information will follow.
Training: On Wednesday, January 29th, each department will meet with Rosa and myself to be trained to administer the interim assessments. This training will occur during each departments' prep period. The location of the training will be in room 45. We will have chromebooks available to you.
Chromebooks: Rosa and I are working with Sal to determine classrooms that will require additional chromebooks to meet the needs of each teacher's period class enrollment. Additionally, some of you may be relocated to a different location when administering the interim assessment for functional reasons. You will be directly communicated with for those details.
The Geography Bee will be on Wednesday in Tanner Hall just after school. Drop in to see some of our best students answer questions about locations that you probably never heard of before.
