December 11-15
Kindergarten Parent Weekly Guide
This Week's Happenings:
We look forward to seeing all of you at the holiday party on the 13th at 1:30! We have over 150 kindergarteners & all parents are invited! All party visitors who have already come inside the school as a volunteer or lunch visitor, can get your visitor sticker printed ahead of time so you don't have to wait in as long of a line. WATCH FOR A GOOGLE FORM FROM THE SCHOOL TO SIGN UP FOR A PREPRINTED STICKER. If you have never been scanned into the school system to get a visitor sticker before, you will have to get your ID scanned in before your sticker can be made. You can come to the school up to 24 hours ahead of the party to get your ID scanned in so a preprinted sticker can be made for you. If you wait until the day of the party & have never had a visitor sticker before, plan to arrive early and bring patience! There will be a line. Our front office only has 2 computers that can scan IDs and print visitor stickers. This process is required for the safety of our students and staff. We appreciate your understanding!
We wish all of you the happiest of Holiday Seasons!. Take time to enjoy the joy and wonder through the eyes of your little ones!

Lost and Found
Lost and Found is full of coats, sweaters, and jackets that you might need before the break! Take a moment to look when you are here for the Holiday Party.
Language Arts
*LAST CALL FOR SIGHT WORDS! :) All kidding aside, student sight word reading is a big indicator of beginning reader's success. Most of the Level A-D books used at school rely heavily on sight words. Please keep practicing sight/rainbow words over the holiday. 19 days is a long time to go without practicing when you are a kindergartner!
We do Word Work daily in our classes, in which students work on the purple sight words using songs, playing sight word games, and building words with materials such as alphabet blocks or magnetic letters. This work is done both whole group and during small group reading.
Students who have mastered the purple words continue to review this list, work on spelling them correctly in writer's workshop, as well as, practice reading their Rainbow list during their small group time. We are so impressed with their growing knowledge and love watching our rainbow wall grow!
As with all skills, some students need a little more time to master. In addition, some kindergartners developmentally need to see things in small increments due to shorter attention spans. The more often they can be exposed, the more success they will have. Your help at home can make a big impact to help your child! Thank you for your support!
*The winter break a great time to provide writing opportunities at home, such as letters to Santa, making Holiday cards for family and friends, or journaling about fun activities. We would love to let them share their journaling when we get back in January!
Please remind them to practice writing conventions such as:
- spacing
- using lower case letters unless it is the beginning of a sentence or a name
- spelling purple sight words correctly
- ending punctuation
*As we work on oral speaking skills, you can help your child use correct PRONOUNS when speaking. For example: "She is my friend." not" Her is my friend."
Math
We are working hard at joining and separating with story problems. You can easily practice simple word problems about cookies, presents, visitors, etc. over the break. Kids can use objects, fingers, count forward/back, or draw pictures as needed to help them solve addition and subtraction stories up to 10.
Example: 2 neighbors decorated their houses and then 3 more neighbors decorated their houses. How many houses were decorated?
Example: Grandma made 7 gingerbread cookies and then my brother ate 4 cookies. How many are left?
Science and Social Studies
In Science, we will learn about natural sources of water.
In Social Studies, we will finish our Family Traditions. Below is a copy of the directions and a copy of the PDF that you may use. Your teacher sent home a paper copy in your child's PAWS Folder with your child's presentation date.
We are having such fun learning about your family traditions!
