UOI 6: Who We Are
Central idea: Our body is made up of different systems that are interdependent.
Key concepts: form, function, connection
Lines of inquiry

What Have We Learned So Far?
Science
Students study 4 different body systems, their organs, and functions. Students built a robotic finger to understand how the muscular and skeletal system work together. And used technology to go inside the human body and virtually dissect organs.
Guest Speakers
Math
In addition, we're continuing to focus on multiplication AND division fluency. Students are required to practice their multiplication fluency every night for 15 minutes on Xtramath.org, this will help them in 4th grade, inshaAllah. At the beginning of fourth grade, the students are expected to know all their multiplication and division facts fluently.
English Language Arts
UOI Summative
Students will create a lapbook with information about the digestive, muscular, skeletal, and respiratory systems. They will research the organs that make up each system and what the system’s role is in the body. Students will label a diagram of the organs for each system. Students will also write a 5-paragraph report which will explain the interdependence of the skeletal and muscular system.
Subject Specific Summatives
Students will have formatives, which will assess their understanding of the math content and help drive my instruction to better suit their needs. They will also have a mid-module and end of module math summative, the date of this summative will be announced a week prior. I send home review sheets for these assessments, the questions on the review sheet are very similar to those on the tests. Students that complete the review sheets generally do better on the summative, than those that do not do it.
School Wide Eid Party & Third Grade Eid Gift Exchange
Students will be participating in an Eid Gift Exchange on the last day of school at our Schoolwide Eid Party. Students have drawn names, anonymously, they have a $5-10 budget to get a gift for their friends.
Eid Break, Regular Schedule, and Half Days
- Next Thursday & Friday (June 14 & 15) will be Eid Break.
- June 18 we will resume our regular schedule (8:30 - 4:05)
- June 27 & 28 are both half days, dismissal will be at 1:00 PM.

Art
Geometric islamic watercolor
They explored the principles of contrast, repetition and harmony by choosing a color palette that ensures definition and harmony. They observed how repetition creates visual balance.
Watercolor original painting
They made choices regarding the colors, the subject and the technique used.
Students communicated their ideas and visual narratives either in an abstract or figurative way.
Also the students applied their acquired knowledge about the color theory, the elements and principles of Art.
Islamic radial floral design
They used transfer paper to trace a radial floral design as a first step before using their design to create an islamic floral design ceramic plate.
AQI
- Students are working on memorization and general understanding understanding to Surah At- Taariq and Ar- Rahmaan.
- students are increasing their fluency of reading the Quraan through reading pages 11,15 from Surat Al-Baqarah.
- Tajweed: students are extracting Hamzat Alwasl and Hamzat Al-Qati (همزة الوصل وهمزة القطع) from the reading portion of surah Al ba qarah and preposition words.
Islamic Studies
- Different between the humans and angels.
- Akhlaq: Thinking good of others, sharing, kindness to parents, speaking the truth, saying a good word.
- Hadith: rights of the body, الجنة تحت أقدام الأمهات
Arabic
- The body parts (inside and out) and describe their bodies.
- Lesson Vocab: أنا عندى رأس كبير ، أنا عندى قلب طيب, كبد، كلى ، مخ, نظام، هذا قلب ، هذه عين.
- Grammar: أسماء الإشارة, المثنى

- forming a sentence in Arabic and Answer a Question about mentioning four outer body part and four inner body part:
- أذكر أربعة أجزاء من جسمك من الخارج و أربعة من الداخل
- أنا عندي ذراع و رأس و أنف و فم من الخارج و قلب و كلى و ريئة و معدة من الداخل.
Quran reading log is Due on the last day of Ramadan around 6/13. remember that reading Quran every night of the last 10 nights of Ramadan is an easy way to gain lots of (Hassanaat) rewards and the Hassanaat erase all the sins inshaa Allah.
We are working on preparing for the summative which is Due on 6/13 inshaa Allah of writing a paragraph about themselves and perfecting illustrating their body parts from inside and outside.
