A NOTE FROM YOUR HUGHES MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS
HMS Parents and Friends,
SPRING BREAK HAS ARRIVED! This Spring Break will be a little different than last year. Last year, we were all looking for toilet paper. What a memory! We are confident each of us have memories that are embedded in our minds forever. This may be a good time to reflect with your child(ren) how the actions and changes in the last year have impacted our world and individual lives. It is sobering to think how our day-to-day comings and goings were (are) impacted.
We wonder whether or not all of the adjustments to our lives have been all bad or are there adjustments that have turned out to be beneficial. At school, the incidents of PDA has gone down. Our campus is more sanitized than ever before. It seems that the number of absences due to the common cold has gone down. There have been no cases of flu reported at this time. The eating spaces and hallways are less congested due to staggered releasing of classes throughout the day.
After the mandatory virtual schooling last year, we think everyone realized that being at school with friends (and colleagues) was a GREAT place to be. Fortunately, most of us were able to reacclimate to being at school very quickly and easily. Also, the COVID-19 alerts we sent out were primarily for folks being exposed outside of school; therefore, there were no widespread outbreaks on campus. Parents, you were quick to respond with self-quarantining if your child was exposed to the virus. Thanks so much!
There is no benefit to the changes brought on by COVID19 that supersedes the unbearable sadness felt from the loss of life and the tragedy of not being with family during difficult times. However, our hope is that even with the horrific tragedies associated with COVID-19, we can rejoice in some positives.
Keep reading for more district and campus news that will help you and your child be prepared to return to school on Monday, March 22nd after Spring Break.
Until next week,
Your HMS Administrative Team

NEW BISD SPECIAL EDUCATION DIRECTOR
ONCE A HUSKY, ALWAYS A HUSKY
We are so proud of our Principal, Dena Schimming. She has accomplished so much in her life already - an incredible family, an impressive education, and an inspirational career. At Hughes, she has been a "TRANSFORMER," an encourager, and an advocate for our mission - "GROW OUR STUDENTS!" Because of Mrs. Schimming, Hughes Middle School will never be the same.
This week, BISD announced that Mrs. Schimming has been named the Director of Special Education for the Burleson Independent School District. Wow! What an incredible vote of confidence! We hope you will find a special way to congratulate her because she deserves it!
Mrs. Schimming, we look forward to hearing about your continued successes. Thank you so much for all you have done for Hughes Middle School. You will be remembered as one of our greatest leaders. We love you and will remain your biggest cheering squad. We know you will,
"Go forth and BE MARVELOUS!"
ONCE A HUSKY, ALWAYS A HUSKY!
FROM BISD ATHLETICS
The UIL updated its COVID protocols on March 4, 2021. The protocols still require masks at UIL events. For now, BISD will keep the COVID protocols that have been in place all year for 7th-12th athletic events. We will review the 50% stadium capacity if the need arises this Spring.
