The Sequiota Scoop
Monthly School Newsletter - February 2020
A Note from Mrs. Wagner
Happy February,
It's been a busy past month around here finishing up our middle of the year iReady testing. You should be receiving these results from your child's teacher soon or with their mid-quarter reports (if you haven't already). We always hope for growth with these tests but please keep in mind that this year has been abnormal (especially for students who transitioned from virtual to seated), which may result in abnormal results as well. We consider this test just one data point among many that we use to guide our instruction and how we can support students with their learning.
THANK YOU again to the fabulous parents helping organize our Valentine "party in a box". I know how much the teachers appreciate that support and how much the students will love the fun that comes out of the box!
Calling incoming Kindergarten families: We are so excited to start hosting K-prep event's in the building again. See below for our first date in February and for all the details for kindergarten registration.
As you probably already know, our schedule will remain the same (4 days of seated instruction, and 1 virtual day on Wednesdays) for the remainder of 3rd quarter. The district will review all COVID data towards the end of 3rd quarter.
In Partnership,
-Mrs. Wagner
Carline Reminders
-Please pull all the way to sign 1 when possible
-Please unload at the first sign you get to
- it throws off the traffic flow when someone could have unloaded their children at 4 but waits until they get to 1 because the 3 cars behind you are ready to leave the parking lot.
-Please do not park on the crosswalk
Afternoon Carline:
-Please display your car-tag until your child is in the car.
- It makes it much quicker for us to call names (we do this twice, once with Mr. Sharkey or Mrs. Wagner on the walkie and again with Coach Hill on the megaphone) and to load the vehicles.
COVID Daily Screening
At-Home Screening Procedure
Every day, before coming to school, we ask parents/guardians to check and ask their child if they have any of the following symptoms and/or exposure:
- Fever – temperature 100.4 degrees or greater.
- Cough
- Rash
- Sore throat/swollen glands
- Shortness of breath
- Runny nose or congestion
- Diarrhea
- Nausea or vomiting
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Lack of appetite
- Loss of taste or smell
- Red, itchy, watery eyes
- Persistent earache
- Close contact with a person with COVID-19 in the last 14 days
Conscious Discipline
The skill of Choices helps us acknowledge that the only person you can "make" change is yourself.
We focus on offering two positive choices instead of the traditional one positive and one negative choice. The script goes like this "you may _______ or _______, which is better for you?" You may brush your teeth first or brush your hair first, which do you choose?
Below is a video link of Becky Baily quickly explaining how to offer two positive choices to a child.
