The Panther Post
EHMS Weekly Update 1/22/24 - 1/26/24
Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
We have had a busy week here at EHMS. With the start of quarter three, marking the midpoint of the year, Mrs. Asklar and I took the opportunity to convene grade-level town halls with all students. Our focus was to remind students of the PBIS pillars and expectations across EHMS. We emphasized that while students may err in their choices at times, our objective is to collaborate with students and families to nurture each child's learning and growth, fostering the ability to make thoughtful decisions. We take pride in our students and witness the embodiment of our PBIS pillars in their daily conduct.
We are planning on providing report cards to students next week. I will send a Parentsquare when students receive their report cards in order for you to keep and eye out. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend. Enjoy this week's Post!
Best,
Christina & Emily

A Look Into Our Panther Community!
Lady Juno and Kolbe came today to welcome students upon arrival. Our students read our visiting friends some books in the library. What a great way to start the day!
The final part of the 8th grade Literary Nonfiction unit asks students to explore digital texts, such as podcasts, interactive articles or websites, and documentaries. This week students were introduced to their final project for the unit, in which they will create their own digital text to synthesize the context and ideas from the literary nonfiction books they have been reading. Final projects will reflect on central ideas and themes, social issues and perspectives, and author’s craft and point of view. We are looking forward to seeing what the 8th graders create!
Positive Office Referrals
Below are some students who have received Positive Office Referrals for their behaviors that have exemplified our PBIS pillars of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion and Pride. Students were able to choose a reward from our menu of options like eating outside with friends! Great job!
Our students celebrated this week are:
Virun Kulatunga, Mira Hogan, Richard Claude, Ellie McNaughton, Brayden Flynn, Jack Perez, Alex Scanlon
Seventh grade math students are currently in the unit on Measuring Circles. Students in the pictures below are applying their skills to find the area of a racetrack.
Thanks to your support, students at Panther Book Giving enjoyed discovering new reads last week. If your child has gently used books, they loved reading and are ready to donate, encourage them to bring their books to Ms. Fielding. Panther Book Giving takes place during morning arrival. Participation in selecting a book is entirely optional for students; they are not required to contribute a book in order to take part. If there are any questions, feel free to connect with Ms. Fielding at cfielding@easthamptonct.org and we look forward to our students sharing their favorite reads! If you would like that your child does not participate in Panther Book Giving, please let Mrs. Amaral know.
On Monday, we held another popular PBIS Bingo during all lunch waves! Those who won were able to pick a prize from our PBIS cart!
Our Drama Club is hard at work preparing for our production of Beauty and the Beast Jr.! We hope you can join us to see the performance on the following days/times:
March 8th - 7pm
March 9th - 2pm & 7pm
March 10th - 2pm
Save the Date!
This week, students in 7th grade who are participating in Project Oceanology had the partnering school come visit. Students worked together to investigate squid and make observations about their adaptations for survival in the wild, as well as experiment with different density layers of water.
On Monday Mrs. Berube's students participated in the "Inertia Tower" activity. They were tasked with building towers of plastic cups and wooden blocks with index cards between the layers. They then had to pull out the index cards without the towers falling. Students made observations and asked questions related to the forces and motion they observed.

Important Attendance Reminder
A phone call does not excuse an absence..
A phone call is appreciated, but only an email to our attendance inbox or written note can officially excuse absence 1 through 9. Below is our attendance email:
Note: Between the school name and the word Attendance is a underscore ( _ )
EHMS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
If a student has four unexcused absences in one month or 10 unexcused absences in a year they are classified as truant. If a child misses 18 or more days in a school year – excused or unexcused absences – the student is classified as chronically absent.

School Based Health
Happy New Year! Did you resolve to be more on top of your and your child’s health this year? Here’s an easy solution: Sign your child up for School-Based Health Care. Your child’s school works with Community Health Center, Inc.’s School-Based Health Care program to provide health services to your child during the school day. This means they won’t miss as much class and you don’t need to miss work to support their health care needs. Learn more about the services offered at your child’s school and enroll today at SBHC1.com!
