Penngrove Press
September 7th, 2022

Whew it's been so HOT! I hope everyone is able to stay cool and enjoy some rest in this heat! We are really looking forward to a beautiful evening for Movie Night this Friday! Be sure to RSVP today!
I need to have 3-5 students willing to attend the Petaluma City School Board meeting on September 13th at 6pm for about 30 minutes. We are presenting on all things PBIS. I have slides ready to go, and will practice with the students selected. If you are able to have your student there and would like them to participate, please let me know asap. (Note: Not all students will be selected due to time constraints.)
We had Sargent Paul Gilman on campus on Tuesday, afternoon walking the campus with me and going over safety procedures. We are working hard to increase safety and make sure we are doing all we can in the event of any type of emergency situation. Sargent Gilman will join us for a drill in the near future to help us have a discerning eye on our practices and systems, and continue to make improvements. Student safety is our number one priority! We appreciate his support!
Stay awkward, brave and kind!

PennStaff Spotlight!

Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
What is one thing you could do to make someone in your class smile this week?

This year Penngrove will be working with Safe Routes to School, a Sonoma County initiative to get students and families to walk, bike, roller skate, etc., to school in order to increase daily movement, encourage environmental awareness and improve traffic situations at schools. We know this has been a challenge at Penngrove due to the nature of the roads surrounding our school, so we are going to be taking a look at any and all small, or even big, improvements we can make to support these efforts at our site. Safe Routes to School offers monthly challenges, in which students can submit their work and win prizes, family bike workshops, classroom education and more! We are very excited to be partnering with this incredible program this year!
September Challenge!
Choose a "green way: to get to school, or around your neighborhood: walk, bike, scoot, skate! Choose a safe route- use multi-use paths or low-traffic, low speed neighborhood streets; choose streets that have bike lanes or shoulders.
