Martin Luther King Day of Service

For our annual service activity, we are collecting toiletries for the Valley Youth House as well as making fleece blankets to donate. This is to support an organization that helps homeless teens. We are looking for toiletry donations as well as no-sew fleece throw kits. These are available on Amazon, in Walmart, or at Joann’s, to name a few options.

Collection boxes are in the lobby of Murray Avenue.

How can we support this service activity?

1) Students and families can donate toiletry items or no sew fleece blanket kits.

2) Students can sign up to come tie blankets on Monday, January 16th from 9 to 10:30 am. Students must sign up in advance to attend. Here is the link to the form to sign up: MLK Day of Service Sign Up (Friday, 1/13/23 is the last day to sign up). This link is also posted on our website under “Announcements.”

Grade 7 & 8 Students Learn about Jolabokaflod

Mrs. Balin's 7th and 8th grade reading classes celebrated Jolabokaflod at their recent library visit with Mrs. Grosso. Jolabokaflod (pronounced Yo-la-book-uh-flot) is an Icelandic tradition celebrated on Christmas Eve. Loved ones gift each other a book and then settle down to a cozy night of reading by a fire sipping on hot chocolate. Mrs. Grosso was able to provide a similar experience for the students who 'gifted' each other books to read over winter break while enjoying their hot chocolate beverages.

Caring for Friends Trip

Students from Murray Avenue with Pine Road Grade 5 students visited the Caring for Friends Center where they packaged meals for people experiencing homelessness. Mrs. Federinko and Mrs. Ithier's classes planned this project together and it was a great experience for everyone who participated. Great job!
