Building our 21st Century Skills
Technological opportunities to help you grow!
November 11, 2015
The time is 1858 - 1914. The place is Solitude, Indiana and except for the iPads in students' hands, it looks like we've gone back in time. This retreat was designed by Julie Kissinger for her sixth grade students to experience authentic learning, and adding "place" details to stories of historical fiction. This historical place, Solitude Village, was built by former history teacher, Jerry King. Jerry has created 13 structures in Solitude including a general store, a school, a church, a mill, a Lincoln law office, and a general house or dwelling. With the help of many retired teachers, this pioneer village became a unique opportunity and setting for students to experience life in pioneer times.
During their visit, students experienced knitting, candle dipping, singing, quilting, "penny candy" at the general store, cooking over an open fire, and the workings of a mill.

Did You Know?
Did you know that cracked or shattered iPad screen repairs can cost between 100 to 150 dollars? Under the glass surface you touch with your finger is the digitizer (it reads your taps) and under the digitizer is the actual LCD display of the iPad and they too can shatter, which increases the cost of repairs. How is an iPad repaired? Check out this video to find out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HBpMYm0WWc
